Mystery Fish I Caught

i re released them
they are wild why keep them in a manmade environment ? its sort of cruel
found them under some rocks in rockpools. caught them with my hands they arent hard to catch =P
i thought they were some sort of goby/blenny

i think your statement of "they are wild why keep them in a manmade nevironment?"

alot of tropical fish you buy are wild
most marine fish are wild

so are u saying the same for these then?

i wud also agree iwht colin not a gobie but a blennie

you got him lol

i would catch and keep if i could :P just saw a programme about some pacific abyss or something, and it makes me want marine fish :(

Mudskippers and blennies look similar but are different. Depending on where kubora comes from will help to tell if it is a mudskipper as they are only found in the tropics. Blennies are found all over the world in temperate and tropical seas.
Also a mudskipper wouldn't stay in his hand. They can jump and hop and are quite quick on land. I had to chase one around the shop once when it got out of the bucket. The customers thought it was a laugh watching me chasing after this thing bouncing across the floor like a frog.

i agree with bleenies, i caught about 20 yesterday wilst down bournemouth beach next to a groin, with my hands,,,,,,,a american family were there and was obsessed with me catching them, i had to fill two buckets until they were happy

that isn't a mudskipper because mud skippers eyes are different, as well as the dorsal fin.

these fish are soooooo easy to catch! just go to some rock pools with a peice of fishing line and a hook (barbless of course :shout: ) and find a few mussels, open them up and stick them on the hook and bang it in the water of a deep(ish) rock pool. they'll come flooding in. i've caught some beasts lol

what is the exact name of these though?? ive never known!
and do they grow into that ma-hoo-sive fish in the picture i posted earlier?

most blennies don't get any bigger than about 6 inches. The fish pic posted by pinkdolphin looks like a jawfish or some sort of grouper. Jawfish can get big as do groupers.

Etheostoma exile (Iowa Darter) ????

If you told us where you caught it then it would help us correctly identify this fish and then we can make an accurate assumption on if it's native to your area or not.

I would say grouper.

You guys are all wrong, this isn't grouper.

That big fish pinkdolphin_113 posted is either wolf fish or wolf eel, (can't see its tail) both species are big and are found in rocky cliff in the ocean.

next time I go to the Caribbean I'll try that... Anyhow, it slightly resembles the lizardfish I found in rock pools, Synodus sp.

I thought it was a muddskipper when i first seen it, am not sure now. I have not looked it up so can not be sure, looks very much like one to me.

Hi, that is a round goby. they are a saltwater fish that has adapted to live in freshwater. i have seen them in lake michigan and in the florida keys!
and yes, i'm sure it is the same fsh.

This goby in first pic don't look like a round goby, its head shape and the jaw doesn't look right for a round goby. There are lots of species of both gobies and blennies that are similar to each other. Plus round gobies are not found in Florida keys, there's no single record for round goby being found in the Florida keys.

So no im sure that its not same fish.
