My Tank, Fish Questions

I currently have a cycled heavily filtered 42 gallon tank.
I am looking for colourful fish to stock this tank with.
Can you suggest any that you personally like and say why you like them and how easy they are to care for?
( Hard to care for fish wont get ignored dont worry! )

Also if the tank was empty as it is now, could it fit a red tiger oscar fish in?

No minimum tank size for a oscar alone would be a 75gallon if not more, if you like cichlid have a look at rainbow cichlid / Tbar cichlid / firemouth cichlid / convict cichlid / keyhole cichlid....Obviously not one of each but see what you think about them types and looks....

Or you have dwarf south/central american cichlids like rams

If I remember correctly you could have severum plus a few other things, I once had a stocking plan for a forty that had a severum, convict and a sengal bichir. Only I never got the forty lol.

I don't think that you could fit a severum in a 40 gallon. I think the reccomended minimum with no tankmates is 75 gallons.

Some say 40 some say 55 I think 75 with no tankmates would be overkill. Full size is usually around 8 inches.

you will definetly want a large school of tetra's as well. Plenty of choices. Also add a bristlenose.
