Hairiness varies quite a bit from one individual to another and isn't always consistent during an individual's growth. Fine hairs are also easily obliterated by a slip of camera focus or lower resolution. It's also not necessarily preserved well on molts if they have been knocking around for a bit. Usually the more important things to compare are overall proportions, claw shape, carapace shape, eye placement/shape, and placement of prongs on the body. The photos here are a good example of hair variation, although for a different species within the same genus:

Well my Deltec mce300 HOB protein skimmer has arrived. :hyper: I have to say the instructions are scandalous on how to set up. I have put it together I think, no parts left over anyway. I haven't turned it on yet. I will do that tomorrow and hope it goes okay.

Update time.

My skimmer has quietened down but is still noticable. Aso I have made a decision on my lighting. I've ordered a Kessila350 LED and should get it in the start of October.

I'm having a bit of a cyano problem. Phosphate is less than 0.64ppm and nitrates around 25ppm.

Don't know much marine wise but but I keep looking through this journal and its keeping me interested and jealous LOL Tanks looking lovely :good:

Cheers Ross. To be fair I'm still fairly clueless about most things which is kind off cool as I'm always learning. Keeps it interesting.

Still thinking about my next fish and particularly what coral to get. That's part of the appeal. You can't rush a saltwater tank.

Update time. Have my new light, a kessil A350 with gooseneck. Gives the tank a whole new look.

Thanks very much. Very kind.

The Kessil looks absolutely brilliant and with the gooseneck is not at all obtrusive. Really sleek and contemporary. I have seen a 6 foot marine setup with one Kessil A350W at one end and a 150W halide at the other. I must say the difference in quality of the light is quite an interesting contrast. I did some PAR measurements as well. The light was position 12 inches above the water and the tank is 19 inches deep. At 8 inches from the surface of the water PAR approximately 200 micromoles/meter squared/ second and at the bottom 60 micromoles/meter squared/ second which is proof that these lights are the dogs doo-dars. Acropora Sp. like PAR readings of 200-500 micro moles/ meter squared/ second which means you have plenty of light at the top to grow photophilic corals and still have a suitable level further down for LPS and softies.

Keep up the excellent journal

Kindest regards
