Brilliant.

As an active poster on a varied array of forums it becomes obvious that there are always people out there that simply look for threads to post so they can moan and complain.

I have a dog, hamsters, fish and a rabbit.

When my dog/hamsters die I will be very upset. When my fish die I stick them down the loo if they are big or bin then if they are small. As for the rabbit, I’ll crack open a bottle of something bubbly as I hate the smelly flea ridden thing (sorry Zo!!)

A dog will stay with me all day, sit on my lap and we can enjoy each others company. My fish just wait till feeding time. Yes I spend money on them, I’ve trained them to know where food is but they are fish and sadly I have been brought up to appreciate all animals just some more than others. My tank gets cleaned regularly, I separate fry to save them, I’ve spent 4 months trying to get my BN to breed which finally has happened but I still think a dog is more important than my fish?

If I found a dead dog in the road the RSPCA will investigate and probably involve the police.

If I found a bag of dead fish on the road are the RSPCA going to care?

He said right at the beginning he changes the Betta tank every 3-4 days, but of course, people read his first message and then post a reply without reading the rest of the thread. Then 3 or 4 people start chatting amongst themselves about how bad he is as a fish owner.

Get a life. If he wants to pour a bottle of bleach into each tank he can, we can't stop him? Post a message saying yes the tank might be small but it’s HIS choice, not yours?

Mate, the betta will probably die soon anyway, mine always do, but I guess that’s because I’m a bad fish owner. When he does stick him in the bin and get another one!!!

I’ll await all your snotty replies now, but like the original poster I’m not going to read them, instead I’ll get on with my life and enjoy my pets in the way I wish too.

Rant over………….

Hahahaha beautiful post my friend :D Leave the kid (or guy rofl) alone..he probably knows what hes doing more then half of the lot of you all. Bettas will do just fine in a .75 G tank..Hell they barely move...and barely breathe. Im not really abetta fan bcuz personally I think they are boring as hell, but his tanks look superb and I the tank on the wall is cool looking. Bravo Dr. Boger...bravo

Ps. Even if I didnt believe in someones care for fish I wouldn't criticize them. He posted the pics to get compliments not pointers, so leave him alone and if you must be nosy pm him. Leave your bad comments to yourselves.

actually this is total rubbish the only time bettas are "boring" "barely move and barely breathe" is when they are
#1, Sick,
#2, Kept too cold (as they are tropical which everybody seems to ignore and they like hotter temps than most tropicals)
#3, don't have enough room. (they get bored easily in tiny spaces with minimal decorations)

all my bettas are very active, constantly exploring their tanks and doing little dances for me to say hello when i came over to them.
Ps. Even if I didnt believe in someones care for fish I wouldn't criticize them. He posted the pics to get compliments not pointers, so leave him alone and if you must be nosy pm him. Leave your bad comments to yourselves.

In general i have tried to avoid commenting on Dr Boogers tanks, as it has gotten totally out of hand and enough people have done so already, thats not to say i agree with how he keeps them, but we are not going to change his mind, so why keep going on about it. BUT i don't think that people should just compliment his tanks without at least offering some advice on how these fish are best kept (at least at the start of the topic), as many fish owners DO actually care about the welfare of their fish (maybe they are "only fish", but if i make the choice to keep a living creature, then i want to keep in in good conditions, so it is comfortable and happy)
Many new fish keepers are not aware that bettas need to kept warm, or that 1/2 gal tanks are not big enough for them they tend to be grateful for the advice, there have been many people on the betta forum, who post about their bettas in tiny containers without heaters, are advised to upgrade and then come back after having done so to say how wonderful their fish is now, and how much he has changed!

and to those people who posted saying "fish do swim you know" and "how do you know he's not happy from one picture", etc. it is because with a happy healthy betta, they are constantly on the move, its difficult getting a picture of them staying still, and they are inquisitive and will come over and watch you.
also when taking a picture of a fish, who takes one when their fish is looking its worst, unless it never looks any better? that would be my reasoning. So maybe he did just take a picture at a bad time and was happy with it, but look at the facts, he took 3 picture and the betta didn't move once (not normal for a happy healthy betta)

how can you say we should stop bothering him, it is a 0.75 gallon tank for gods sake, the recommended minimum for keeping a betta is 2 GALLONS!

and also he has no filtration system, so the poor little betta is swimming around in dirty water all the time which isn't oxygenated, swishing your finger around for 2 seconds isn't going to oxygenate the water either, i know they can live in water without hardly any oxygen at all but that is taking the piss, he also says he is doing water changes every 3-4 days, it would be better a water change at least every day, maybe 50-75%, that way the fish will maybe become more happier.

i would put the betta in the 2 gallon pronto if i was you, just to make sure he is happy

sorry if i offended u in my little outburst

thanks

paul

Oh few, i thought no one else would notice this thread (well apart from angry betta people who don't read posts), hats off to you tacklebury.

I forgot so many people liked bettas lol. Well I shouldn't be complaining my bichir and eels probably move less then a betta.

Ibbledibble, although I don't like or know much about bettas I do know that they don't get "bored" and do not become "happy". A better word for it would be content and stress-free. Fish do not have emotions like you or I do. In fact fish do not have emotions and can't think like most mammals can. Even reptiles have larger brains in comparison, so please treat your fish as fish and not your best friend Josh at work that you carpool with every Wednesday. They trust instinct and no one can say hes not happy. Although you obviously know more about bettas , so I back up your statement that he should be moved to the 2 gallon.

One word sums up this thread:

Wow all you betta lot would flip over in shock if you saw how bettas are imported and dealt with in wholesalers.

A quite busy tropical fish wholesaler will get through about 200 bettas in a week. Now dont even bother thinking for 1 second they they get roomey tanks. The are kept in your average jam jar. Water changers would be done every 2-3 days depending on what maintenance more valuable fish needed. If the fish isn't suitable for sale it will be killed, no not with clove oil, probably dumped in a bag of water and chucked in the freezer.

Thats inhumane. Savages. :grr:

Best stop buying fish if you don't want to support this kind of keeping.

Same goes for anything in the business. If it's more costly to treat or quarantine a single fish it will be killed. Why waste time and money on a fish which could spread disease to the other fish in that tank?

this thread, and the countless like it, is why I am no longer as active on this forum (or any other come to that) as I once was.

face facts people, no matter what advise you give if it is not what others wish to hear it is like whispering in a hurricane.

Very true. Why do they post asking for advice and then proceed to slate every reply, citing their superior knowledge? Not saying that that's happened in this thread but it happens all too often here.

You do wonder why people bother posting in the first place though if they feel the need to constantly make excuses for their post - 'I know the tank is too small/I am going to upgrade this/don't slate me but' and so forth. What else are people going to say? Good job on being a poor fishkeeper?

Not sure I like the whole fish are inferior animals vibe in this thread either. While it is perhaps true that you will never have the same depth of feeling for a fish as you would a larger animal like a dog, that's no reason to provide them with inadequate care. You should provide to the best of your ability a suitable environment for any animal you keep - or don't keep them at all.
