My New Tank!

As many of you no from a recent thread i was looking at starting my first tank. Anyway i received it today Its a 60L Aqua one clearview 280. Anyway it is second hand it is a bit dusty inside so just wondering whats the best way to clean it? also all ive got so far is the tank and filter what should i next buy im guessing heater sand and then the master water test thingy.

clean using 10% (or less) bleach solution. rinse extremely well afterwards. then test the tank for leaks by filling it with water and leaving it for a day or so (not fool proof but better than nothing)

u left light off ur list (unless the tank comes with those, or ur placing it near a window)

Well it has got a light , and my room is brightly lit? is the light an essential?

Use boiled hot water, it will kill off any bacteria left by the previous owner.

If you are wanting live plants, you will need a light in the tank but that is an easy purchase, you can buy them in ebay or your LFS x

I have already got a light , wont boiled water break the glass

Yeah, it's not the best idea. Diluted bleach is probably a winner, no issues as long as you leave it to dry and use a slight excess of dechlorinator when you refill it.

Not if you boil the water and wash the inside of the tank with a clean sponge

Ah okay thanks Beth! , And thanks for taking an interest Simon Going to be a while though before its all up and running properly as i need to get some money together first

the only thing you need to clean a tank
is a vacuum cleaner to vacuum it out
once you have done that all you need is
a dilution of aquarium salt in warm water
and a clean unused lint free cloth
or a sponge gently rub round the tank
inside and out till clean then change
old water for fresh clean water wipe
round and your finished you can buff the
outside of the tank with old newspaper
it puts a shine on it then fill with
clean cold water leave to stand for 24hrs
to test for leaks best done outside
that bit just in case
