So after watching this poor fish get more and more beat up. It got him. He was at the store for 3 months with african ciclids and pink convicts with no place to hide.

I'm not sure what he is? I was thinking some kind of geo. Now that I have her I don't think so. But she has the best blue eyes.

Here she is looking beat up. But she is healthy and out going. My other cichlids where checking her out. I moved every thing around in the tank. To make it all fair.

So what is she? She is a bit stressed out here I will take some more photo later.

But the blue eyes. I have been looking at lots of Geos and none have blue eyes. Only cichlid I found with blue eyes were from central America . This is the first time I bought a fish I did not know what it was.

When I first saw it 3 months ago I thought it was an thorichthys ellioti

Hmmm....could be either. I don't know which though :p Hopefully someone else has some insight, if not, wait until she colors up and heals a little, she'll be a little more identifiable then (we can go by body coloration and finnage instead of just eye color and body shape) :)

Must admit my first reaction was geo bras, however you saying T.Ellioti had me looking at mine and again, does look more like and yes has the blue eye, that the brasiliensis doesnt.

Just could'nt walk away could you
Lucky you don't have one of my lfs near you, you would have 100's of tanks full of cichlids...

Have a look at <Amphilophus robertsoni......false firemouth

Yeah I'm a sucker. It was like watching a poor unloved dog at the pound never get any love. She had been there 3 months getting worst and worst. I'm getting a 100gal or bigger this summer so I got her.

They seem so be getting along well. Still working out who gets what bed room and what one will be the boss. It's going really well.

She has a line from her eye down. Her nose is pink. The color and markings on her fins is so pretty. She still needs to color up more. Amphilophus robertsoni does not have the blue eyes.

I should add this fish is 4.5" was ordered under assortied cichlids normaly it's just Africans but they got this guy mixed in. So this fish could be wild caught imported to the fish ware house they did not know what to sell him under so just put him in with the assorted ordered.

Geophagus camopiensis has blueish eyes.

I found this great site to Id cichlids. Check out the site. Www.fishbase.org

Photos using a flash. The eyes look yellow when i use the flash. But it is blue in normal light.

So I think she is some kind of Geo and that's what I wanted. Thanks for looking. I will post more pics in a few months once her fins heal up.

Hope they heal up soon! Good on you to get them, once their fins heal up they could look pretty different I think.

Also just a thought, with the photos if we are IDing off the blue eyes but in some photos the eyes show goldy/yellow. Would other fish show yellow eyes in photos as well?

Just as a thought when people said G.Brasiliensis I thought of G.sp Bahia

The pic there shows a bit of blue in the eyes? But I still think that they might be easier to match up when the fins grow back.

'Geophagus' sp. "Bahia Red" . You know what I think that could be it. Same color body. 2 little blue specks by the eye. Red fins, black dot, GREEN EYES. I think you win this one.

That is the Fish Tank you...

Oh poor little thing, I would have no doubt done the same. Its definately not an Ellioti as the cheek spot is missing.

I had a bahia red until not long ago (should have recognised it!!), lovely fish, can be a little aggro, but I imagine after what she's been thru, will be no problem.
