Those are beautiful  fish. If I had a bigger tank I would gladly take some off your hands. :shifty: The colors are so diverse! Please tell me what you did to make them like that. (If I had a filter for the 3-4 gal and if it would make my fry look like that, I would *so* put my lone fry in there!) What kind of food and how much space?

And no, I couldn't even guess what could improve your guppies. Can I see some females from that batch?

Hello FH,

O.K., FH, this is my style of taking care of the guppies. Others have their own ways too. They are also right.

I keep about 30 juvenile guppies in a 24" x 18" x 12" all glass bare bottomed tank. There is a DIY filter made from a soda bottle consisting of mechanical and biological filtration setup using an air pump at moderate air flow. Fish are given flakes of various made and micro pellets too. This is given as a first food of the day. Then I will feed the guppies with newly hatched brine shrimps. For a 'restaurant' treat. I will feed them no more than 2 weekly feed of chopped frozen blood worm and unchopped tubifex worms when they have reached 1.5 months. Around 6 to 8 feedings per day are given to the guppies and water change is done at least twice or no more than thrice a week.

Tubifex worms are given. Ensure they are properly washed and rinsed in clean water before feeding.

My female juvenile guppy from the same batch.

Another male from similar batch. The mechanical filter of the DIY filter due to be cleaned, it is already dirty.

Very nice looking fish, can see you do a good job at looking after them with the quality of your juveniles :good:

You are doing fine noor. The young fish in your picture will soon grow to their full potential and be ready to command a good price at a local club auction. Pet shops do not seem to appreciate the quality that club auction bidders do. My own next club auction, where I will be selling livebearers, is 15 Oct.

Thank you so much OldMan for those encouraging and supportive words.

Frankly speaking, I was merely trying this project to check out how true the procedures of raising guppies from day 1 to the 3rd month of a guppy fry from info gathered from the Nets. Now, I am convinced, young guppies can be of premium condition if they are properly taken care off with proper care. I was skeptical at the beginning, but not now. With this success, I will try to breed better quality guppies.

Wish you the best in the coming auction on 15 Oct.

PS:
I was so happy to get a 2.5 months old male guppy with a relatively wide tail. [sorry, while capturing the photo, I concentrated on the guppy's tail so much so, the body was a in a blurred stage!)

Same fish but a difference of 1 month. Thru my observation, the dorsal and caudal fins have developed better and a little of difference in body pattern and I believe I must have overpumped this guy so much so, the tummy is a little bit bulging. But thia can be overcome with less feeding. What do you think?

All feedbacks good or otherwise are welcome.

Noor, totally awesome fish!! the irridescent colours just flare out and the black markings are so deep in contrast. Gorgeous fish and a credit to you!:)

DA, thks for appreciating my guppy. This is an F1 from a lfs parents.

CA, I was just using an outdated Nikon dslr D70s camera with a Tamrom 90mm macro lens and the Nikon SB600 speedlite. Flash was bounced and speed was 60 with an f8 stop aperture. Metering was pattern. The pictures at your signature were very well taken, I love them all.

cool thanks for letting me know. i want to get a nice prime macro lens.

i take pride in my pics, but the ones in my sig are all pixeled down, so they wouldnt go over the max file size this forum allows for signatures, i have some new decent photos in my fluval ebi shrimp tank journal (link in sig) if you want to check them out.

what direction are u bouncing the flash off? and off of what? i really need to get an external flash.

CA, your photos at journal are beautiful. Thks for sharing.

I simply bounce the flash other than to the direction of the subject. The idea is to simply get a better illumination so that subject's image won't be washed out.

You need to get external flash if you are thinking of getting good results for any photos of fish or aquarium.

How are your's so pretty at only a few months?!

Guppyz, frankly speaking, before I jumped into guppies bandwagon from angelfish keeping, I was quite sceptical that guppies could be at that stage within 3 months period. According to all threads abt guppy's good fishkeeping, we have to keep them in tip top condition from day 1 till they reached 3 months. With almost daily WCs and at least 6 feedings per day with newly hatched BBS, chopped tubifex worms, frozen blood worms, and don't skim on flakes - get the good one. So, I followed religiously as being told.

And here they're, at 3 months old.

I don't believe it myself, until I got the result.

So, if you want to get good result, simply keep the fries as above.
