My Fish Tank And It's Owners

At the minute in my Rio 125 I have:

3 Three-Lined Corydoras
1 Black Peru Corydoras
1 Baby BristleNose Plecostamus
2 German Blue Rams *male n female*
2 Zebra Danios
12? Guppies

But as I said I may be able to get rid of all the guppies, which means more space :)
I may well get rid of the danios, but I've had them since cycling.

But I'm deffinately getting some more Black Peru Corydoras, have them written down on the books for me at my LFS. I want to get atleast 3 more so I have 4 in total and then if I have space another 1 Three-Lined aswell.

What fish should I get after moving the guppies if I can?

Suggestions for a external filter? As it's hard to reach the internal one at the moment.

Also hard easy is it to keep a external filter compared to a internal filter?

Well the only progress on the Rio300 is that I've got a 25kg bag of Dorset Pea Gravel and 4 pieces of wood, even though I need more bigger pieces.

Bad news for the 125, yet again the bn plecostamus died :(
The third one I've had and they all die?
Doesn't make sense.

pH 7.6
ammonia 0ppm
nitrite 0ppm
nitrate 40ppm

But a person at planetcatfish said they bred bn pleco's in water with higher nitrates then mine!
And surely if my nitrates was the problem surely my German Blue Rams would be the first to go?

what were you feeding the plecs?

and were they all from the same source?

Had the same problem. Couldn't keep Plecs alive ever since I used Melafix (im pretty sure it was melafix) to treat an illness. So I ran carbon for a week in the filter, tried again with another BN and she's still very happy and healthy :D
Hope this helps..

Well previously I used JMC catfish pellets and aquarian tropical flakes, but for my latest bn plec I was told to buy some algae wafers and put them in at night to give the plec a chance to eat.

So on the same day I bought some Hikari Algae Wafers, broke two up every night and drop them in after lights out.

I'm not sure as to illness, they all looked happy to me, cleaning away during day. I did get one from another place that's supposed to be very good, but that one died too :/

RadaR - If I get some Melafix, and put some in the tank the same day, then how long should I leave it before I put the carbon sponge in?

My pleco always hid during the day. No, he didn't die. I had him for prob about 2-3 years, but found out he was a common so I sold him back to the LFS before he got too big. He was only about 8inches maybe when I returned him.

Just curious, why do you need melafix?

--edit--
I fed mine wafers at night too.

You could do like radar said and throw some carbon in your filter for a few weeks. That's good at cleaning that stuff out.

The only thing I've been putting in is API Leaf Zone, but the previous ones, I wasn't because I didn't have it?

I've been using Seachem Prime for water changes.

Hopefully the living room should be getting painted next week

*tank is in living room*

so that means I can start soaking my wood.

Or would my carbon sponge take out the tannins?

Either way I can start to get my tank ready after the room has been painted
