My Fish Tank And It's Owners

Yeah I must get that out soon.

My hairgrass has started turning brown at points, not sure if that's algae or rotting.

And I think the Black Corys are rare:eek:

Ok update: I moved my fish and mostly all the water from my 9gal to my 39gal :)

So basically I have a free tank :)

And I have got 3 options:

1. Throw It Out...
2. Use it for a lizard/frog/snake or something.
3. Put sand in it and form a hill, plant dwarf hairgrass down the hill so it's basically a dwarf hairgrass substrate lol. But a filter and then put maybe some endlers in there or a betta. Or use it as a hospital/breeding/fry tank.

hey the recent water test results are:

pH: 7.6
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 40

Went to LFS got some more fish food lol and pH buffer 7.2, just recently put some in so my pH will be dropping :)

And also seen some fish I like:
Severums
Demonasi
Leopard Ctnemopars?
Datnoid
Assorted Killifish
Angels *still in mind*
Discus *come up again*
The black corydoras *still*
2 Plecs one grows to 7" the other to 5"
And some other medium-hard to keep cichlids.

If you want Discus, then you need to stop adding fish and go for Discus. That tank is small already. These would be your center piece fish.

Severum I am thinking may want to eat the guppies when he gets big. I am pretty sure Datnoid are brackish? Maybe another member can expand on that for you, and me.

Angels won't work in a tank that size if you want Discus. They just don't mix well in small tanks.

Remember, this tank is small, and Cichlids are aggressive. Don't go and put a bunch of stuff in there because it is just going to end in disaster.

I won't be buying a load of fish that don't go together...

After reading a discus info sheet, I think that puts them out of my head, as I would be unable to keep up with the water changes...

I will most probably go with one of my original ideas, pair of angels or a rainbow shark...

But they've just got in some Golden/Blue Rams aswell....
Grrr don't know what to go for!!!

I will be getting rid of the guppy fry hopefully if one of my LFS will take them...
Will keep my 5 zebra danios, keep my trio of corydoras.

So really I want to expand my corydoras school, possibly get 3 more? Maybe the black corydoras at £7.45 each.
Buy another plec, which grows to 7" max or smaller.
Now I do want like one main attraction fish like Discus, Angels or Rainbow Shark or RTBS.
But there's loads of other nice fish... and finding the right mix of fish in my tank...

I have loads of money so no need to worry about that part...

So main attraction fish/s with say some small tough fish...
or
Community and go for some golden honey gourami's, [NO TETRA'S], and some other community fish I saw, which I can't remember atm.

just got back from LFS and came back with a pair of Blue Rams and 2 Peru Cory's.

£25.98 in total for four fish.

The man at the LFS got out the dominent male and the fattest female =]

Pictures will follow tomorrow most probably as I'm babysitting tonight.

Well here are some pictures:

Also some bad news my big yellow guppy died, not sure how, but she has had a weird back since I've had her so maybe that had something to do with it...
Also one of the darker females had to be killed by me today, she was unable to swim, and kept going on her side when she stopped moving her fins... So I put her in a jug of cold water with ice, and then put her in the freezer for 30mins.

So 2 losses and 4 gains...
All the other... 12+ guppies seem fine and the older batch some males have got a orangey/pinkish colour towards the back of there body, they really have came out stunning by the mother and father colours!!!

*I need to get rid of all my guppies, any suggestions? I have tried one of my LFS but they said no as they don't have a quarintine tank =[ only 2 more left to try really...*

Well all looks good!!!
Just recently been looking at my tank, and the ram's have made a lil dug-out at the front right corner of the tank =]

Also the female has a small tube like thing near the rear of her body...
Looks like they are gearing up to breed hehe!!!
Will keep you all updated.

Wow you've really worked hard at this (just read your thread start to finish). Tank looks great, your guppies that have died have probably just succumbed to new tank syndrome, the other thing that stands out is the shark. You haven't got one yet have you? I would think twice, he'll 'worry' your smaller fish, although rainbows are SLIGHTLY less aggressive than RTBS. However, with any small fish I'd avoid both of them.

Your nitrate is bordering on a bit too high, have you tested your tap water? Some tap water is very high so it's impossible to keep it low, but if that isn't the case maybe you need to do water changes a bit more often, it's ok but you don't want to let it get any higher than 40ppm.

As for your small tank, I'd keep it as a spare you can use either for fry or quarantine. Keep some filter sponge in your big tank so you can set up the small tank at a moments notice.

All the best, looking forward to the next instalment!

hehe thanks.

Cost me a fair bit too.
Nope I'm not getting a Rainbow Shark or a Red-Tailed Black Shark.
I was going for Angels, but came back with a pair of German Blue Rams, which may I add have just recently laid eggs =D I hope the male fertillizers them and they don't think they're live food.

What a result that'd be... 2 days in and already laid eggs!!! Tank can't be too bad in all fairness...
I think about 3 guppies are about to deliver another batch =/ and maybe 2 female zebra danios, if they are females lol.

I'll be overrun by fry!!!
Would like to keep some of the Rams but the guppies... I have to many of.
And have no solution to get rid of them except kill them myself... None of my LFS will have them.

no more eggs. i think they've been eaten by the other fish...
the pair is yound Im guessing as i did see a few times neither of them guarding them after she'd laid...

Oh well Im sure they'll try more times and hopefully Ill be lucky and have some Blue Ram fry one day =]

Well it's been a long time since I last updated so here's a picture of how my Rio 125 looks now.

DSC00241.jpg

I have lost some guppies, zebra danios and one of my black peru corries :(

But have obtained a baby BN pleco that is doing well :)

As you can see I have now got 2 Hydor Ario 3's in the tank and the one on the left my trio of three-lined corries love to swim in between the bubbles :) and I have also got some more sand and more plants :)

Hope the improvement is better.

And I have also found someone to take all my guppies hopefully, which will mean freeing up room for some different fish.

I'm thinking pair of Angels but don't know how well that'd go.
So maybe a shoal of rummy nose tetra's? even though I am scared of losing all my fish to the tetra disease.

Also some fantastic news!!!

I've bought a Brand New Rio 300 for £280!!! was on sale as it's last one and they trying to get rid of it :D Bargin huh!

 I really wouldn't worry too much about tetra disease... It believe it is pretty rare...

Take a look at the tank you are buying your fish from, look for dead fish. Put your hand up at the top of the tank to simulate feeding and make sure they are all aware and hungry. If not, move on.

What do you have in the tank now? Danio may get a little nippy with smaller tetras or long finned variety Angels. Angels may end up nipping at the guppies.
