My "add And Wait" Fishless Cycle Diary :)

I have no idea what time your dose time is anymore

Don't worry.. As long as you havn't starved the little guys its ok... I'd just go back to your normal time of 10 o'clock dosing personally otherwise your 12 hour tests will be at crazy times in the night!

I think basically all WD wanted to do was remove most of the nitrates, and then make sure there wasn't to much ammonia suddenly in the water from them almost being starved.

If you've already added ammonia today? 2ppm? You could just dose it 3ppm (to make it 5) and then wait until tomorrow morning and test to see if its all gone, then do your proper 5ppm tomorrow at 10. Even if i'm wrong, nothing 'bad' will happen, it just might not be as optimum. (that is if you havn't already dosed too much today, i'm a little confused too)

em not sure what to do myself? WD did say that I should bring it back up to 5 ppm over the next few days so as not to shock the little critters! Or that's how I read it?

I have only dosed once once after each water change, also I checked the Ammonia level about an hour and half after I added it and it was 2 ppm and I put 2.5 ppm so the bac's must of eaten .5 in just over an hour!

I think I will test Ammonia again at 22:00 and have a look to see if there is any movement in nitrite's.

Untill 10 then...

Ok went for it Si,

Day.21 Date.26:05:2010 Time. 2220

Ammonia: 0 ppm (added 3 ppm)

pH: 7.8 - 8.0 ppm

Nitrite: 2.0 - 5.0 ppm ( So going down )

I will check tomorrow at 10:00 to see what is going on? Hopefully I will be at 00 again!

Clint

I should imagine it will be, concidering what they have been through :( lol.
The little critters are very hardy, mind you they should be they are 5 yrs old :)

I have now just got to decide what fish I want? I got my eye on a few community types nothing to expensive just yet!
I'll have to post them up and get some advice on them.

I would like a big tank but that means cutting out the wall putting in a lintal etc and I have only just re decorated the front room:( maybe next year? I just looked up and noticed I would have to move the rad also :(

Clint.

Dwarf suckermouth catfish
Galaxy rasboras
Blue Neon Tetra
Oto's
electric blue rams

:good:

The electric blue rams are very sensitive fish (look up german blue ram for them thats the closest match but they have more information on GBRs). I'd love to get some but I'm going for the more hardy bolivian ram.

Thanks for the copy n past Si! (I forgot what was there)

I'll have. Look in 2 mins at the German blues I'll also look at the Bolivian ones also, I will need some hardys to start off with!

Can I ask do you know off hand if the Germans are as hardy?

I just noticed the time also Witching hour soon lol I got to get up early tomorrow so I can be back in for 10:00 to check out my tank (how sad am I lol)
right I'm off to have a quick look at the Germans!

Have a good day tomorrow,

Thanks again

Clint.

I have just looked at the Bolivian's and they are very nice ! I might end up getting them instead!

Thanks for that Si.

Clint.

german blue ram and electric blue ram are the same species I think, just variations in colour as you get other similar rams. They are v.sensitive to nitrates too... and require pH of 6.5 or less generally although some people get away with 7 or less

thats why I'm going with bolivian to start off with

Just a quick post for now busy lol,
10:00 today

Ammonia: 0 ppm

nitrite 0 ppm

pH normal 8.0 ppm

no3 down to 40-80 ppm after yet another water change (looking better)

I will give more detail latter

Clint.

So now where are we? Are we getting these double-zeros on 24hour tests or 12hour ones? And for how many days?

Agree about the GBRs, probably not beginner fish as they require that you be quite fanatical about GCWCs (does that work as an acronym Si, lol?)
