My "add And Wait" Fishless Cycle Diary :)

Back on !

missed Ammonia last night, re-dosed today 12:00 heater went off also but temp is at 22.5 in tank filter went off (not me) I will see what is going on in a few hrs then follow waterdrops advice. If it's not to late?

It will hopefully just stall for a day or two then be or get back to normal. Maybe add some boiled water to bring the temp up a bit if you have time.

Day 20:

Time: 2200 Date:25th May 2010

Temp: 84F/29C

Ammonia: 0 ppm

pH high: 8.0 ppm

Nitrite: 0 ppm

Hi ~~WD~~ Thanks for your last post I will sort that out tomorrow hopefully.

My pc is down at the moment :( but able to use next doors to get on here :)

Short and sweet today Still sorting out my life lol...

Same as last time Si,

I am well chuffed that media took really well didn't it! I will be doing my big water change tomorrow as WD surgested (spelling going up the spout now carnt be bothered to check with google as now on my iPhone lol)

can I ask when WD mentioned I should do a battery test I take it he ment I should do a full test of everything ? ( should you pop by WD could you please put me stright? Thanks)

This iPhone is hard work! I have to take the laptop to the shop tomorrow and get it fixed, I don't think I can handle using this thing for much longer lol

Clint.

One more thing gents should I still be adding ammonia on the 24 hrs mark or should it be 12 hrs mark now ? Also should I be testing on the 12hrs mark now?
Thanks
clint.

Compleated water change by 10:00 cleaned gravel etc as WD stated I should.

Day 21 date: 26 may
Test results 11:38

Ammonia: 2.0 ppm

pH: 7.8 - 8.0 ppm

Nitrite: (no2) +5 ppm

I will re-test tonight at 22:00hrs

Any comment welcome

Clint

Today. Time:15:55

Ammonia: 0 ppm (these bact are loving it lol)

Nitrite: (no2) 2.0 ppm

Nitrate (no3) +160 Bright Red again! (Should I water change/gravel clean again?)

Clint.

You never add ammonia twice a day, just one a day... :good:

Everytime its 160, you do a waterchange but you're nitrate can't go to 160? was your water change about 1% or something lol?

as soon as you're sure the ammonia and nitrite are processing within 24 hours, start adding 5ppm of ammonia a day if you're not already. Then do the 12 hour tests (I think you are but everything looks a bit hectic with times atm)

Hi Si,

Thanks for looking in!

I did a down to gravel water change but didn't flush the filter when I re filled 50% I just gravel cleaned again taking the water back out as WD surgested.

Add ammonia once a day! It will go in one day lol!

I think I must of miss understood his reply to me ?

Anyway I just did another water change (not fun) but this time when I re filled to the half way mark I turned the filter on for 10 - 15 mins!( Loads of dirty looking water entered the tank from the filter) I then gravel cleaned again and am waiting till tonight to see what is going on?

Can you shed any light on what WD ment when he said I should do a battery test ?

Clint.

Just to comfirm Si my Nitrate was bright red so was not on the scale! +160 ppm

Clint.

Edit: was more like crimson red if that makes sense? Could be between 40 & 80 as they are red!

I thought you were API. bright red is 40-80. I dunno :fun:

I'm not really sure what 'flushing the filter is'

I have an internal filter, so when I do a waterchange I turn off the filter, stick it in a bucket of tank water, do the water change, put the filter back in, turn it on and re-dose or half dose depending on the time.

edit: little unsure of what WD means about the battery test is...

The clean out was a full 100% waterchange and then you add 50% and remove that, and then refill (I think!) - I've had a bit to drink so...

Alright for some having a drink! I don't at all :( if I start I get silly carnt stop myself. Better not drinking at all lol.

This is driving me crazy m8, I can only assume WD ment flush the filter as he states make sure I condition the water as the bactiera are still fragile!

I'll just have to wait untill he comes on line again? The bactiera are eating the Ammonia so thing must be ok!

I might just go and do a NitrAte test just to see, If it's still +160 I am going to flip lol as I don't know what to do next untill the WD pops in...
Speak latter don't get to drun. You got tests to do lol

Clint.

Right back again (19.55) just tested NitrAte again and it looks like a Crimson red if anything it is inbetween 40 & 80 i think...80 is red and 160 is brown as far I am concerned so must be between the two reds?

I am very confuse. Now ;(
