HELP!!! I checked on my fry at about 1:30am and since then i have lost 11 fry all dead and floating at the top. I have noticed the others 'shimmying' like vibrating and then after they do that a couple of times they headstand then tailstand then die! Only some of them are doing this not all of them but i only have 12 left! They only seem to do this when i turn my air pump on but i can't reset the flow of bubbles so it's kind of a do i leave the air pump out or do i put it on and risk losing more?!

Well that's all 23 fry dead! They just died with these symptoms:

-swimming odd up to the top.
-'vibrating'.
-headstanding.
-tailstanding.
-DEAD!

They only had these symptoms when i turned the air pump on for surface disturbance. I ajusted the flow of bubbles with an air flow ajuster so it was a small flow. The temp is 24-26 degrees C and all the fry were fine for about 5-6 hours then they suddenly started with these symptoms.
I don't know what to do because i don't want this to happen all the time and midnight looks ready to burst!

A few questions.
Do you have a big enough heater to hold the temperature in that small tank stable in a cold house?
Is there a filter for the small fry tank?
Is the filter already cycled or did you set the tank up in a hurry for the fry?

Some of my thoughts are that the cold air may be affecting the tank temperature. Air flow will also stir the water and any uneaten food will tend to decay faster. That would not be a big problem with a cycled filter but, if you have a new tank, it could mean a rapid build of ammonia in the water. If your tank is newly set up, the only way to avoid ammonia harming the fish is to do frequent large water changes.

I was doing large water changes because i have no spare filter as my filter in my 2ft tank packed up last night so i had to use my spare 1.The fry were doing fine and the temp was a constant 24-26, it may have gone between these 3 temps 24, 25, 26 but not to quickly. The heater is 50w so it should be big enough as i was told that a 25w would be fine in that tank but it's twice that. Thanks for your reply.

Well what do you guys think of my new tank design? Hopefully midnights fry will survive longer than 48 hours. Well with 3 females and 1 male i'm gonna have loads of fry!

Would i be able to have some cories in this tank? If so would i be better with a pygmy species?

You need to work on cycling that tank before putting any fish in it if you can. One thing that works for me for a rapid cycle is to seed the new filter by cleaning the existing filter on one of my other tanks in the new tank. Even a poor clone done that way would be plenty to deal with a few guppy fry. The bacteria colony could grow with the fish if you avoid any overfeeding. Once you have a good filter established in your tank, you could indeed add some pygmy cories, but that is not your present priority.
