Ive had this blue wag for about a year and a half now. When I got her, she was normal size and initially after gaining weight I thought she was pregnant. Her gravid spot was (and still is) dark but has seemed to have gotten larger since I first noticed the 'pregnancy'. Today I noticed the lump coming out of her. She still poops perfectly fine and isnt pineconing whatsoever so Im not thinking its dropsy. My water perimeters are great and all at normal levels and no other fish in my tank show any signs of obesity so Ive ruled that out as well. She swims perfectly and males still chase her as if they're trying to mate, she hasnt shown any signs of behavioral changes. She's been in a tank with a small dose of aquarium salt before as she has ick at one point, however this was a while ago. I haven't noticed any signs of parasites either- does anyone have any idea on what may be happening with her and what I could do to help?

(image was taken through a scratched up plastic cup sorry about quality that was the best I could do as she's a very active fish)

It appears to be a prolapse which can have multiple causes. She also appears bloated. Has she ever delivered fry?

Thats what Ive been thinking as well.. and Ive never seen her deliver nor has there been any fry in my tank. Im usually pretty good about getting my fish in a breeder box before they deliver but shes never shown signs of being ready

Given what you say, the prolapse is likely the result of straining to release fry which she has been unable to do for some organic reason. I'm not aware of any treatment, sadly.

For future reference, breeding boxes are not recommended for platies, swordtails, mollies and the like. They stress the fish and often lead to loss.

Gotcha okay...thankyou for the help and info but she did unfortunately pass this morning

Sorry to hear that she's passed. But most likely she had an internal problem that she became so bloated and had this prolapse... Doesn't have to be by pregnancy, btw... Bloat can be caused by multiple reasons...
