Moon Lights

I have just bought a new tank that can have the lighting system on a timer that switches from daylight to moonlight.

I have read that the daylights should be on for 10 to 12 hours but is it then okay the leave the moonlights on for the rest of the time?

I am thinking that this is how it would be in normal sea conditions but would welcome some advice on this.

I wil be having a reef set up.

My 'day' lights are on for approx 10/12 hours, then moonlights till I go to bed - then darkness
