MLB 2026

Had a 7 game winning streak till losing last night to the Giants in a make up game. The lead in the NL east is pretty thin, even with the braves being well over 500.

Actually Rocchio was not the first to hit a grand slam and a walk-off homer. He wes the first to do it from both sides of the plate.

Odd double header... In the second game Bazanna hits a game tying homer and then walks it off. So there were tying homers and walk-offs by the same player in both games.

Saw something else today that makes yesterdays double header thing even odder. When Cleveland walked-off the second game two farm club teams did the same. Thing is that all three games ended within 5 minutes of each other. So three teams in the organization all won with walk-off whithin five minutes of each other.

Red Sox beat the Orioles 5 to 0. Sonny Gray pitched 7 solid innings giving up just 3 hits and 0 runs. Sox have cooled off a bit lately with a 10 game result of 5 wins and 5 losses. But they are solidly doing well in the wildcard race with a 5.5 game lead against the team below them.

The Blue Jays caught up with Cleveland. Go figure. I don't think they have the pitching with all their injuries to maintain the pace, but it seems a team only has to be mediocre and hover around .500 to matter. I've watched this team play stale, with bad fundamental baseball and no hitting since the Spring - a serious World Series hangover. And yet they're in a playoff spot since they hold the tie breaker over Cleveland. And in the context, they're dangerous, with experience. They just have to solve the problem of half their starting pitching being injured.

Red Sox swept the Orioles with a win on Sunday night. For the Sox, Tolle pitched 6 innings and had 12 strike outs and gave up 1 run. Sox win 3 to 1. They are now 6 wins/4 losses in the last 10 games--a respectable performance.

Braves lost to Phillies today 0-1- tied the series 2 - 2. It's weird, but I'm glad that it's tight- a couple of years ago the Braves blasted everyone and coasted to win the division and immediately lost the first playoff series. They seem to do better when they're used to some adversity. In early Spring this year, they looked like they did a couple of years ago, blasting through everyone, but June brought them back to earth with a thud LOL.

I keep reminding myself to be grateful for the team we have. I remember when I was a kid, you could sit anywhere you wanted to in Fulton County stadium- nobody there and the Braves sucked. I had a friend who worked at the stadium. He said that the Braves would staple tickets to everyones' paychecks. There was a trash can by the door on the way out of the pay office- it was full of Braves tickets- folks would just pull them off and throw them away before even getting out the door LOL.

Red Sox beat the Angels 5 to 2. Sox are now 7 and 3 for the last 10 games. The Angels are a very poor team so hopefully we can sweep the Angels in this series.

Cleveland beat the Twins 5-2 today. They are now 1/2 game behind the White Sox for the division with 14 games to go. Can Cleveland come back again late? We shall see. Cleveland has a 3 game series coming up with the Sox. That series will likely decide the year.

With 12 games left Cleveland is now only a half game back of the White Sox. And guess who Cleveland is playing the next 3 games against... Yep, the White Sox in Cleveland.

Well, Cleveland took two out of three from the 'Sox to no be alone in first place by half a game with nine to go. Will they hold on? Who knows but this is when baseball is truly fun.

A sort of different kind of team in Cleveland. As soon as you doubt they pull off a run and stick your nose in it. They are like the little dog that beats the big dog just through speed and being tenacious. They just wear you out. From the sixth inning on they have more runs than any team. They just get in to your bullpen and few teams can match Cleveland's pen so they score late and you don't.

We watched Philly vs Mets today. I saw something I've never seen in baseball before. Top of 6th a close play at first. The first baseman stretched out off the bag as the pitcher ran over to cover. The pitcher kneed the guy in the head & knocked him out cold. He lay there face down in the dirt for a while. Eventually a cart with backboard came out & he was able to give a thumbs up as it drove away. Whew, scary!!

Our runner was safe. Surprisingly, the very upset pitcher stayed in & got the last out that inning. Philly went on to win.

Funny how a long 162 game season can come down to the last few games. Cleveland and the Sox are in a tie for the division with 9 games left. I'm prety sure hat the Sox have the tie breaker so Cleveland has to just keep playing well and take the division.

At the same time I sort of hope the Sox take the division with Cleveland as the wildcard. Cleveland happens to have a better road record than home.

Red Sox are leading the division leading Tampa Bay Rays 4 to 1 in the bottom of the 6th inning.
