I have an Metriaclima Estherae OB who is holding eggs right now. It's been almost three weeks. I noticed this morning that her tail and dorsal fins have been nipped at. At this time, she hasn't eaten much because of the eggs, and looks to have become weak. I have moved her to a breeder net with rockwork, and decided to hit the tank with Melafix because one of the others has a small wound on its side.

Can the Melafix harm the eggs or fry?

Thanks,
Andrew

I`m afraid I can`t comment on whether the melafix will harm any fry as I`ve never used the stuff, sorry

I would however say that simple, partial water changes done on a daily basis will do wonders for wounds and will certainly help hugely with the fry`s growth when they`ve been spat :good: :good:

Your female should spit in the next week B-)

I used some stuff for mouth fungus from interpet whilst my Angels had eggs and unfortunately it anihalated them. :( Unsure if it is the same stuff though?

I was planning on selling the fry to a LFA, but if the mothers health is a risk, I'd rather keep her healthy.

I've used floating "fry hatcheries" to house mouthbrooding mothers sucessfully in the past. The way I made mine was to cut 4 large "windows" into a tupperware container, attach fiberglass fly screen to the inside of the "windows" using silicon sealant, attach some polystyrene "floating" bars to ensure the whole unit floats. With mbuna, it's best to include a few bits of PVC pipe they can hide inside so they dont get stressed inside the hatchery.
