Manzanita Branches

Hi all,

I'm still struggling to find the 'perfect' wood for my 15L nano, I recently happened on an article using manzanita wood:

And have found some on ebay for a reasonable price.

Has anyone else used this? is it aquarium safe?

It's totally safe. You usually have to soak it for a couple of weeks to get it water logged so that it will sink. Plus that will get out some of the tannins as well. The coolest looking thing is to get a really gnarly looking piece and attach some mosses to it. When the mosses spread out, it looks amazing!

I can't tell you how many time's i've kicked myself in the butt, because I used to live in California, and Manzanita is EVERYWHERE there..and I never got any...dumb dumb dumb!!

No way!! That's too bad because the shops really charge and arm and a leg for it! I have my eye on a nice piece for my 140g but all the pieces I've seen that I like are over $100.

I still have a ton of friends and family there that come and visit quite often..I'm going to ask them if they can get me some..if so i'll let you know..are you in the states?

I'm in Canada, but thanks for your consideration. I'll just have to sell some more of my shrimplets to lfs to fund it. That's how I usually pay for new fish, plants and equipment. Who would have thought shrimp could be so lucrative, lol.

What part of Canada cause I'm in Montana and that's not too far..I just put two phone calls in to family and friends to see about them getting some for me..If they do and your interested all i'd charge ya is just whatever it was to ship it to you...I know how it is to really want something and not have access to it..Believe me Montana sucks!!!! The closest lfs to me is sixty dam miles..lol or we could trade some shrimp lol

I'm right above ya! Lol, I've been to Montana, it's beautiful, although that's too bad you're so far away from lfs! That's not an issue for me, we have a lot of specialty fish stores here in addition to the big chain stores. Do you buy your fish on line ever? I find that's the best way to go if you have nothing decent close by. I buy different shrimp on-line because it's cheaper and there is more variety. I've never had anything show up dead either. What you should do is get your family to send you a whole bunch of wood, then sell the pieces on-line in your area! Thanks for the offer but I'm almost positive you can't ship wood across border because of the risk of bringing disease or bugs or whatever. Hopefully you can get some good pieces and you should post some pics when you get some in your tank!

Sweet!!!lol no i haven't ever bought online..there is actually a sweet tropical fish hatchery in Logan, Utah that I've been dying to go too..But it's so far.. I actually just got some cholla wood that i'm going to try out..And Ya i agree people are making good money off that dam wood...who would of thought it would be worth so much lol..I've got my bro looking out for me in Cali..told him i'd take everything he could get his hands on..I'm going to get my cholla on saturday , have to clean it and what not then in it goes..I'm excited!! My tank is soooo boring right now it drives me crazy. But i got on ebay tonight a scored a huge resin log decor for like twenty bucks so that should be a good fit in the old 55gal..I've never had luck with the live plants so i stick with the fake stuff lol..so I also bought..on ebay..lol a big artificial bonsai tree, i used to have one a long time ago and loved the way it looked..so we'll see I'll post pics for sure...talk to you soon )
