Because I can afford it and because my pleco tanks needed a lot of wood, I have bought a lot of Malaysian wood. It sinks right away without needing to be water logged first. Up until Covid it was not overly expensive but then it became harder to find. Fortunately. I got most of it before then.
Before I got into breeding the Hypans I bought a lot of Cypress. It is lovely wood for display tanks but it is very lightweight and always needs a tile attached and then buried in the substrate when possible to hold it down.
Here are two pieces of cyprus in my high light 50 gal. taken once the wood, gravel and terraces were in place before anything else (even the water) went into the tank.
