Since I work at a restraunt/bar, I've asked the cooks and bartenders to save me the 1g glass jars that the cherrys and green olives come in.

Last night I got a green olive one. How do I get the oil washed off completely so it's safe for a betta?

I let it soak in water and aquarium salt overnight, but it doesn't seem to be taking off all the residue. -_-

The olive juice is disgusting (unless it's in a dirty martini :shifty: ).

Olive oil is one of the WORST things to remove. You'll have to use a kitchen soap with degreaser in it. Then after you get it clean you'll need to wash it a few more times in pure hot water to get rid of any soap residue.

Thanks Kelly. :D

I think I'll bring it back to work, and run it through the dishwasher there. :flex:

I'll check to see if our detergent has a de-greaser. I assume it has to.

When my daughter snowyangel worked at the cinema here she was always swiping their empty plastic candy tubs, they make great Betta and hospital bowls, even guppy fry bowls. Now she's moved and working at a restaurant in a hotel and she's still swiping containers, I think the last one was an empty cookie container? They call her "the fishy lady". :D I'm a good mommy so no comment on that one.

Yuck on the oil. Olive oil is healthy stuff but who needs greased fish? :X I am thinking that ANY good dishwashing liquid is full of degreasing elements and should remove that oil for ya immediately. Not dishwasher machine liquid, my dishwasher is hubby, , but any dish liquid degreases great, particularly the cheaper ones. It's neat to score new Betta and fry bowls. Since any dishwashing soap is designed to rinse clean off your dishes(or you'd be burping soap bubbles next mealtime   ) they should easily rinse clear off any oiled up glass. Keep us posted how it works out.

I washed it with regular dish soap and rinsed it really good.

After that, I soaked it in warm saltwater for a few hours, then rinsed it again.

It's the new home for a female of mine.

It sucks that most things come in the "clouded" white plastic containers nowadays. :grr:

These jars make good betta homes.

arrgh, you're telling me :grr: Darn cloudy containers. I just came back from hitting 4 dollar stores and EVERYBODY carries cloudy containers :X
