Maintaining pieces of wood in aquarium

I just started adding several pieces of wood to my aquarium. Do I need to rinse or wipe it off when I clean the aquarium? It's getting a little fuzzy

Do you mean fuzzy with algae growing on it or fuzzy with white gooey stuff?
Algae growth is natural, scrub it off it you don't like it but it will come back.
White gooey stuff is mould from within the wood. Either scrub or hose it off until it stops coming back.

There really isn't any color to it. It just feels slimy.

That sounds like the mould that comes out of the wood. I would just remove it either by scrubbing the wood outside or by hosing it off. It will stop coming back though it's impossible to say how long that will take.
