Mac

If you can't use a computer, get a mac, that's just how it is. Only exception is if you want the simplicity for media related junk.

You should have heard us roasting a computer science student on my boyfriends course when he said he had a mac. And I quote 'I've got it because it's simple to use' we were like... you're a computer science student and have a mac cause it's simple to use

no offense but that compromises highly of fail, though not too much as everyone always likes something easy :)

yeah and my PC has only got one or two viruses and it was because i did something i didnt normally do which is go to a dodgey site (nothing bad i assure you) and i had the worst virus protection in the world, now (knock on wood) i dont get viruses and i stay off dodgey sites

and ive had this baby for 5 years running (PC) and she stillworks brand new (except for the dam spacebar, i crushed a bug underneath it never worked the ame again lol)

and im 15 which means i was 10 or 11 when i got it so...

I used a mac for web design class once.
Slowest hunk of poop that I'd ever used.

Then it was that individual mac, that's not a reflection on the brand. Macs are fine bits of kit, they're not invinsible and faultless like some think but for a lot of people they do exactly what they need it do and often do it very well.

My PC gets loads of viruses, and I do not do anything wrong on them.

If that's the case, then yes you are doing something wrong. And don't for a second believe that the Mac OS is secure either, it's not no matter what they tell you in the adverts.

As for viruses, I've got for around two years now on windows with no virus protection at all, I scan every two months and I'm fine. Why? Because I know what I'm doing.

What are you scanning with if you have no virus protection?...and while knowing what you're doing does go someway to preventing infections to consider that as the only line of defence required to prevent infections means you're as deluded as the poster claiming they gets loads of viruses and isn't doing anything wrong.

MalwareBytes Anti-Malware
ESET Free Scanner
And a bunch of other big companies free online scans.

2009 22" iMacs.
Quite frankly, yes you are getting viruses because you are inept at computing. Viruses don't just 'appear'. If you are getting viruses, you are doing something wrong.
Teachers break EVERYTHING. School PCs break because they are school PCs, cheapest nastiest ones they could find that are in constant use by computer beginners who probably think sticking magnetized screwdrivers inside is funny and cool.
I also said CUT and past, not COPY and paste.
Your home PC died because it's power supply died. This happens with pretty much all electrical equipment, if you look on the label somewhere it tells you how long it's meant to last.

I go to yahoo.com, fishforums, and facebook. I don't download unless it's something like iTunes. I do run Trend Micro Internet Security, and it cleans the computer off once a week. The laptops my teachers are bringing to him are their PERSONAL laptops, not school provided ones. If the power supply died, then how come it kept shutting off when I was using it, and was sent in 3 different times in the same year for the same problem? Surely the part wouldn't fail again and again after being replaced. I am using the Mac for editing. I plan on getting Final Cut Pro . iMovie is a very good editing program, and gets the job done, and it's free.

Because whoever 'fixed' it didn't actually fix it. If you got a car fixed by a mechanic and it came back with the same problem what would you think? You wouldn't blame the car...you'd blame the mechanic.

I've seen plenty of MACs that have had various bits n bobs break, difference between them and PC's is that you're not tied to apple to get your PC fixed. You have a choice of who you go to an how much you pay. On average (having seen a hell of alot of PC's and MACs) I would say macs are no more bomb proof hardware wise and that they're are no safer with regards to virus/malware problems than a PC with good security and reasonably sensible person infront of the keyboard.

Most people buy macs for the wrong reason (because they're so problem free vs a pc) but if you're getting it for the software it has on it then no one will ever persuade you otherwise as it fits your needs perfectly.
However I would never buy a MAC due to the high price compared to what you can get in a normal PC. You can get good-looking, high spec laptops with good security for around half the price normally, for me as a person who would never need a piece of apple software a MAC would cripple me.

Eitherways...enjoy it when you get it :) and if you can get extended warranty then do it.

Your power supply is dead/dying. Random shutoffs mean it can't hold high enough voltages/wattages for a particularly long time, hence the shutoffs when it just can't cope any more. The random shut downs should happen more and more often if it is the PSU. It also sounds like it wasn't replaced at all if it wasn't fixed. Write down serial numbers and check them when you get a repair back.

I ordered my MacBook Pro today. All together, after they send me my rebates, it's 1408.45 cents. That's a crap load of money, but I have it all saved up!

i wish i had that money :( lol

hope you get what you want out of it :)

Me too, it's all gone now. I guess it's good for me, learning how to save before I hit College and then the world beyond! The mac is coming in on Tuesday by 10 30 AM. I am SOOOOOO pumped!

I got my Mac today! I have to say, it's a pretty impressive piece of technology. Very stylish, very quick, very professional. I love the feel of it. Now that I have bought it, i am glad i bought this computer instead of a PC.

You were always going to say that though werent you... Still a waste of money in my eyes when you can get an equivalent spec for around 1/3 of the price but there we are.

Say what? That I am impressed and that i really like it? Oh noooo! You've caught me! I never even bought the laptop and I am just a bot posting about how good apple is!

Now let's get realistic. I am sure I could get an equivalent spec for 400 dollars. But will it last? No, it won't. My sister and brother tried that route. They have just bought a mac in the last month, and they like the mac a lot better. My sister chelsea couldn't turn hers on without having it plugged into a wall, and my brother willis had a 45 min battery life, had just replaced his power cord and adapter, and then his entire computer crashed again. They took it to best buy, looked at it and told him it was beyond repair, so they gave him 520 bucks for it, It is not like I am close minded about PC"s, I just like this mac a lot better than any PC I have ever used or owned. My question is, is it wrong to be satisfied with a mac? Is it wrong that it does what I want it to do, and does it quickly? I would sure hope not. I would recommend this laptop to anyone looking for a laptop (unless they are just searching the web with it).

No need to be defensive. I meant you were always going to say it was good because you specifically chose it... it's like me ordering a fish tank and then saying it arrived and I was happy with it...if I picked it you'd certainly hope I was happy with it! lol.

And for the record, it sounds like you've been unlucky and/or messed around by whoever has supplies your family with laptops before. I've never had a problem with any laptops battery life on the long term but you're tarring them all with the same brush.
At least when I say I don't like macs I'm not judging them all by a couple of bad examples... I'm judging them based on what they actually are.

It has a lower power usage for one thing, because it IS less powerful... so of course the battery will last longer.
It doesn't have anything installed on it EVER and therefore of course it'll never slow down or need reformatting cause someone went to town installing stuff on it

My point always has and for the forseeable future will always be, don't get one cause you think it's better than a pc. Get it cause you have plenty of money spare and it has specific apple features you actually want/need... or because you want to pose in starbucks ;)

Thinking about it, if I were to recommend a mac for anyone it WOULD be to someone (with too much money) who only wanted something bomb proof for browsing the internet (with the exception of someone who used ALOT of apple software.. obviously they would benefit from just getting it as a full package). You can't install anything on a mac so there is no way anyone could ever end up with malware or a virus on it.

Even then I'd just recommend a low end laptop with good anti virus and malware cover.
