Look What I Got From Ebay!

Sounds like a nackerd starter whats 50p-£1 your have to pull the ibar apart to get at it tho

Its so wierd... I swap the fuse and it works right away and stays on. The moment I turn it off, even after only being on for a few seconds, it wont come back on. I swap the fuse and the same thing. I swap back for the original fuse and same again!! so it's not blowing the fuse or anything. Bloomin crazy, driving me nuts

when you say change the fuse do you mean in the plug? have you tried changing the white stater motor thing in the light area?that sounds to be the problem,
i also have one of these, to say if one of the light bulbs blow the light unit will not work at all until you buy another tube that works<just so you know>
nice little tanks

I have had this fault on my rio300 and rio120, cut the on/off switch out that seems to be a weak point, on both of mine i removed it and they are fine now, obviously i have to remove the plug to turn off the lights now, but if you could be bothered you can put your own on/off switch on.

Just remember this is only my experience no kicking my ass if you do this and it does not work :)

Cheers, Karl

this is a good idea also, i have done this to a few tanks on my time,,,but just check the white starter first, only round a pound in tescos or cheaper, just like the ones that are usual on the long kithcen lights

I have a 125 and the problem with the light unit is that it is totally sealed unit so removing and replacing the fuse in the starter unit isn't an option, only ever seen a topic once how a bloke cut open the unit and did some tinkering inside (can't remember what now but try googling and you may find it) but this effects the seal so you have to be careful afterwards, the only other option is to buy a new unit.

But it is a nice tank.

Ha Haaaa!

Done in the switch and plug so it isn't that...

Yes been doing some research......it's me ballast

No visable starter to replace so in I went!

In a scene comparable to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre I went in from the underneth. Opening it like a tin of beans and out popped a long white ballast. No point in opening that I can imagin what's in there and I'm not a brain surgeon!

Nothing else in there apart from a bunch of wire. Point of no return now :hyper: It's either locating the ballast or a new light bar.....the latter being more than I paid for the tank

hehe have you desimated the tank  bodge job i beleive<iam the king of bodges

tank is fine.....the light bar is a train wreck :hyper:

Can you post the information written on the ballast? I am a sparky so will be able to trace you a replacement, also it is one ballast for both tubes or is there two seperate ones?

Baz

hi doresy

iv got the same tank and had the same trouble with mine a wile back, i also cut the the switch off and put a plug on it and it still did the same the lights came on on off when they felt like it then didnt come on at all then did.
in the end it turned out to be one ov the tubes wich was on its way out i replaced it and iv had no trouble since then, as once one ov the tubes starts to go, it stops them both working :good:

Cheapest buy on the unit (with tubes) is available here (this includes postage) £59.50
Juwel 125 Multilux

But I did find this on another site maybe it will help

Unfortunately there is a double thread on this one as it is on the DIY/ Hardware forum as well.

God, if it's just a dodgy tube I'll be  !

I don't think so as when they do work they would be on as long as you like....anyway I have located what looks to be the right ballast (2x18w Electronic) brand new from eBay from a very nice man for £4 incl. postage!

I've sliced open the light bar from underneth, leaving a flange so I can stick a 'patch' of ABS plastic over it with the ballast attatched making it 'waterproof' once again.

It's a 4 quid experiment so no problem......

Many thanks to all that replied....more progress can be followed in my other thread over in DIY :good:

I'm keeping my toes crossed for you, doresy, since I need my hands free for typing, fish stuff and coffee-chugging.
So I really hope everything goes well for you now, fast - in great part because now I'm walking funny and the neighbours are starting to point and giggle...

Great bargain. Good job.

I got my JUWEL Rekord 120 with stand/heater/filter for only £40. CHUFFED :D
