this morning when i went to feed i found 11 newborn Limia fry - OMG they are so large compoared with guppy and platy fry
I've put them in the breeding trap just til hubby comes home but will then release them back into the tank cos they are large enough to survive and i dont like keeping things in traps too long

EDIT - found 4 more amoung the amazon frogbit :) so up to 15

pics can already see the stipes -bless them

Hi Sarah,

My adults show no interest at all in the fry, so if you want to mix them, it's probably safe to do so.

Yes, they are quite big. They grow quite quickly, too. Lovely fish, much underrated in my opinion.

Cheers, Neale

Thanks for that Neale , i will mix them ,there is lots of plants in the tank including loads of floating -amazon frogbit and i have just seen 4 more fry in the frogbit so will release them later
They are truely a gorgeous live bearer and definately underated as you stated .
The link you gave me on them a while ago was very helpful so thankyou for that aswell

Just notice birthing tube on one of the other large females and she's hanging around in the frogbit so i think she's going to drop aswell - just turned the lights in the tank off for her to give her some peace

Congrats Pippoodle. The pictures of your adults in January are very nice ndeed. I got a few Limia melanogasters last fall and have had very good luck with them just leaving the fry in with the parents. Although the fry are large compared to most Poeciliids, you should see the size of goodeid fry. They are even that much larger again. My Ameca splendens fry are near 2 cm at birth.
