is this an ok lighting system and how much would you pay for a t5 ho lighting system my lfs said 125 for the lighting for a rekord 120 conversion without bulbs

30" NOVA EXTREME FW 2X24W T5HO STRIP

* • European style high output T5 lamps
* • Performance driven electronic ballast
* • Slim design & German parabolic reflector• Energy efficient
* The Nova Extreme™ combines the best in both design and functionality and is a great addition to any aquarium. The sleek black-aluminum construction not only maintains a low profile on the aquarium, its design also allows it to dissipate heat away from the aquarium, lamps and components. German-style polished reflector directs over 99% of the T5 lighting into the aquarium while a polycarbonate splash lens protects lamps. Sliding aquarium mounts adjust easily to ensure a proper fit for your aquarium. Only a single power cord delivers all the lighting you need for the ultimate looking aquarium.
* SlimPaq High Output T-5 lamps offer a quantum leap in lamp performance, nearly doubling the lumen output compared to an ordinary T5, T8 or T12 fluorescent system. Using our proprietary blend of tri-phosphors, the high PAR & CRI levels produce stunning color rendition and penetrating intensity. Coupled with our finely tuned electronic driving system, SlimPaq lamps have the longest usable life-span of any aquarium lamp.
* Each Nova Extreme includes two high output T5 SlimPaq lamps and pull-out sliding docking mounts.
* SlimPaq Actinic T5HO (Saltwater models only) - A super actinic blue lamp emitting light energy required by corals and invertebrates, along with producing a high UV output. Outstanding color rendition that makes corals, invertebrates and fish fluoresce brilliantly.
* SlimPaq Freshwater T5HO (Freshwater models only) - A bright pinkish hue lamp emits the ideal light energy and spectrum required by freshwater plants for photosynthesis. High color rendition enhances the brilliant colors in freshwater fish and brings out the lush green in plants.
* SlimPaq 10,000K T5HO - A powerful, penetrating full spectrum lamp replicating sunlight found on living coral reefs. Exceptional high lumen output concentrated between 400-480nm stimulates zooxanthellae production increasing both coral and invertebrate growth.

i konw there is a lot of info but computer will not let me copy the url

How much!!?!?!

You can get a unit that does 4 HOT5 lamps for just over half that for a Record 120 :good: The lamp unit itself is less, but you need ot get individual reflectors for the lamps, and that is more

No doubt it's a nice unit, but is it nice enough to pay twice what you need to for? I note you need tubes on top of that £125, and that's at least £30 on top

How much light do you need? Put that another way if you don't know, what corals (if any) do you whish to keep?

All the best

sorry should have explained better the 125 was from the lfs and this was one i found on net for 46 which i think was pretty cool

That's a better price for that unit

What corals (if any) do you want to keep?

Are the reflectors for both lamps seporate or combined?

All the best

not really sure about reflecors not really gonna keep any corals at the mo just looking in to it cos i have 2 t8 at the mo and prob need better lighting in the future for when i get corals i do like plsing xenia will these be ok nder these

If it's a new version of the Record 120, it should alredy have T5's. Those will be ample for Pulsing Xinea and similar softies :good: Older Record 120's will have shipped with T8's though

they discountinued the rekord 120 now and it got remodeled and named the lido i think which has t5s they bloody expensive from juwel gona get that lighting i found i think does everyone agree this will be a good buy

i just finished the cycle of my tank

ammonia on salifert test below .25
nitrite bearly registaring on teratec test
nitrate 10 on tetra tec test

just finished 30% water change gona test all again in the mornin
would all this be ok to start stocking if all ok in the mornin did add 2 hermit crabs and a turbo snail to get rid of diatomes was i right to do this

how much cuc should i get

also looking for id i have this crab in my rock which just peers out every now and then and some times sticks his arm out to get something to munch not really seen him but he looks brown prob bout the size of a 5p with little spots on him my step mum has seen him but all she said was this i aint seen him that good any ideas

no the rekord 120 has been remoddled as the rekord 800, and the lido is a separate line,

also what5 do i look for between corals to tell me that they are hard or sort or is this just a really dumb qs is it that they are hard skinned and sort skinned or something else

Right, if you have any detectable ammonia or nitrite, you can't start stocking yet, as it's still cycling  They must be zero before stock gets near the tank, and personally, I'd wait a week with the levels on zero before adding anything

Hard corals build a skelaton, and the polyps attach to it. Softies just grow off the LR. Look for a while skelaton on the LR piece, onto which the polyps are attached. If this is what the coral looks like, it's a hard coral. If it is soft to touch and the polyps are not attached to a skelaton, rather they are attached directly to LR, you have a softie. You can ask the dealer also, but don't always assume them to be 100% correct

If you see any livestock you like, reserve it, research it, decide if it will work and then collect/cancel the reserved specimin :good: Any Xinea frag is a good place to start with corals usualy :good:

All the best

There are no set rules/guidelines there to my knowlage. What people usualy do is choose some CUC that eat the various bits and batts, and then add to the CUC as needed to keep things under control :good:
