Light on ?

Possibly a daft question but just want to get it right.
Doing a fishless cycle with no plants.
Do I need the light on to do this ?

Not a daft question at all.Don’t bother with the light if you don’t have plants in the tank.Theres certainly no light in a canister filter and that’s where the bacteria will grow when cycling.

no plants means there's no need for light so leave the light off until you get live plants.

Have put in filter , substrate and the wood which has already been soaking for five weeks ( with water changes).
Will set up light to test and then leave it off.

I would leave the light off during the cycle, as there are no plants yet.
