LFS wont giv bacteria

all you need to do is knock the smug little fork down a notch... ive had to deal with petsmart ppl like this before....... call them on teh benifical bacteria thing... hold your ground and ask them if they have any books on fish/seting up a new tnak... these books shold say somthing about colonizing a tank with mature media... when the clerk looks it up in the book they shold turn bright red in the face and let you have it your way... if not try some of the smaller petshops around... they seem to listen and respect peoples wishes more........

i had to do this at my LFS.. i asked for some snails and the response i got was "why on earth wold any one want snails in there tnak" then she looked at the guy behind the counter and chuckled....... i asked her if shes ever kept a puffer or clown loaches........ then just let out a nice large "DUHHHHHH" and left for good.

i no longer shop at 3 differnt fish only shops for resons simalr to this...... you just need to put people like this in there place so they think twice before droping misinformation or talink out there behind....

no time to spell check viva la bam is on!

From the original post, I don't think that the clerk was arguing about the fact that adding mature media is a good idea - he was just saying that he wasn't going to pull apart the one filter for the whole shop to give away a bit of media (which probably wouldn't fit in the average filter anyway).

Yes, the gravel will have a little bacteria, but if they've got a powerful filter (which they undoubtedly will have) there won't be much in there at all. Regardless - why should the LFS go giving away their gravel? Imagine if everyone who started a new tank went into their LFS to get a small amount of gravel - they'd very quickly run out! Some LFS's have a procedure in place to do this, others don't because they don't think it's necessary. That's life, I'm afraid.

Ya but the manager who wouldnt give me any said to just use Cycle, and said he deos it for all his tanks and he has never had a problem.

ok? if your a customer who buys a tank or any hardware over $100 bux then they shold let you have half a cup of gravel... its not like there gonna run out.. they got bags of it layin around........ c'mon now... if he where some punk off the street comin in there sayin "hey dude can you score me some gravel mmmmaaannnnnn?" then they can say "hell no freeloder get bent!" but no NS bought a freakin 125 and the ass-hat woldnt give him a half cup of gravel??!!?!?

call me crazy but they shold be wipeing your butt after your purchase NS! go back and tell them whats goin on!

I dont think no business should let you have anything, but they can sell it to you.

no bissnes shold let you have anything??? thay shold always charge you for every last thing???? what about napkins at mcdonalds... giveing something for free insures customer satisfaction.... a greedy bisness will not prosper without lieing or cheating...... or did i missunderstand you?

If they have one big filter they probably have to turn it off, open it and then remove media, which is probably pretty time-consuming. You might of been able to secure some if you asked for it BEFORE buying the tank, but now that you have it it's unlikely they're going to give you anything. A mom-and-pop store is always willing to help; just buy a few small schooling fish there and ask them for a bit of media, they'll probably let you have it. There's no trouble with putting a few small fish in an uncycled tank as long as the filter media has some mature media mixed in.

what?

Anyway.....Do you think the price of napkins, straws, salt and pepper, is not incorporated in the prices already?

Cmon get over it, when the last time u went gas station got something for free or supermarket, they are in it for the money first. IMO that is okay.
