Krib Babies... In With Angel Fish..

Well the kribs seem to be getting more aggressive now. The poor angels have had there fin's nipped slightly. It seems to be the male that is doing most of the attacking/chasing.

I have a tank I could put them in but I think I would be seriously pushed trying to catch them tbh, Even my attempt at getting the parents didn't go well.

My planting isnt very thick at the moment so i'm wondering if putting more plants will help the situation, some other posts online suggest this could work. I could also add some more caves and hiding places. I was also under the impression that kribs mainly stayed near the bottom where as these seem to swim right to the top quite often and even go for the angels when the kribs are at the bottom and angels are at the top and the tank is 2FT TALL!!

Any suggestions now are welcome as I am off tomorrow so will be doing a water change and any messing about that needs to be done!

You could place a divider in the tank and seperate them off from each other.

It wouldn't be very pretty, but you could create a visual barrier by adding plenty of plants in a line. Whether it would work though is pot luck i guess. Use rocks and wood too.

Kribs will patrol the whole tank if they feel the need to attack another fish to defend their young.

The male will do the majority of the defending whilst the female tends to the fry, but females can be just as evil, or at least mine was.

size of fish wont matter either with kribs, i remember putting my hand in my tank once and the male went for me, made me jump more than anything

You could suck out the fry with a pipette and they will chill out once the fry have been moved, but then they will probably spawn again within 10 days. Lovely fish, nasty attitude when breeding

Would getting more fish help at all? At the moment the krib is just picking on the angels but they are the only fish in there apart from the RTBS. I want to move my plec but I am worried about him being in there with the kribs??

Personally I think at the moment the problem is that the kribs pretty much swim around the tank like they own it and there is nothing to stop them, the kribs are literally at one side and the angels at the other and the male krib swims all the way across the 5ft tank to chase the angel At first it was just if the angel got too close which was fine.

Perspex divider sounds like it would be the perfect solution mate tbh.

a more more decor, bogwood built up into a wall , whatever you can build around the fry area really. dividers are good, pita on a 5 foot tank mind.

The way I look at is rocks, wood and plants may work, a divider definately will!

Ok well the Kribs and as many babies as I could catch are now in there own tank! Happy days, hopefully the injured angel will recover!

Here is the poor little one:

I have currently got him sat in a floating breeding trap as he doesnt appear to be able to swim properly so didnt want the other fish trying to chase him, is this best or should I let him out?

Set him free. The trap will be stressing him no end.

What exactly is the damage?

Is it just fin damage? Do some decent sized water changes (20%) every other day and he will make a speedy recovery.

i've seen fish recover from worse, like minnnt said, fresh water every few days and a stress free environment and he will right himself.

Putting him in the fry/rearing trap was probably the worst thing you could have done...but hes still going so might be alright
