Ok... have changed my substrate from gaudy blue gravel to gorgeous sand this evening. The fish seem incredibly happy - however there is a trauma here right now. Plugged the pump back in and it went for a while then promptly stopped. I am guessing its blocked up with fine particles of sand. Any way of cleaning it out? Or shall I just head out tomorrow and get a new pump (hope I can as this one came wit the tank eeeeeeeek).

Hubby is not happy. He works away and have just rung him and broke the news. Apparently I should of waited for him to come home LOL - typical man. Although when I asked him to help last weekend he was none too keen.

Will the fish be ok without a pump overnight - is there anything in particular I should do?

Any advice apreciated - thanks :*)

You need to take the filter apart. Put the filter media in the tank to keep it wet as you do this.
If this is a HOB I can help you.
pour water out of the filter
remove the uptake pipe from the filter
remove the propeler from the hole it sets in
run clean water into the filter pouring out often
make sure the propeler spins smooth before placing back into filter
replace propeler in the hole
put small amount of water in unit and start it up
if it works unplug, put it back togerther and place back in tank

If you can not get it to this point grab all parts and your car keys and go to the LFS and give them a nice smile and ask for help.

Don't forget..if you get your pump working, you may want to consider adding some type of sieve, screen or sock to the intake . SH

Thanks both. Managed to get it working last night - much to my relief - phew!

Thanks for replying :)
