yo guys,

just found this awsome 3 foot piece of wood, obviously a branch of a tree. I have no idea what type tree it is, most of the bark has come off but there is still a bit left on it if that makes any difference? I would really really like to put this in my coldwater setup. It would be ok with shubunkins and baby kois?

So really what i want to know is:

How do I make it aquarium safe??
How will it affect my water stats? ph etc...
WILL THE FISH BE OK?

I really want to use this in my setup, it's such a lovely piece. It would be a shame not to.

well coat it in G4 pond sealent and it will be safe, but being wood it will float!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I think you need to find out exactly what tree it was from. Some have sap which maybe harmful to fish. If you do manage to identify it then do reserch on google by just asking the question. If all is good then I think people boil bogwood so maybe do that :good:

Yeah like I can boil a 3 foot piece of wood lmao.

dont you know nothing

cut it up into pieces small enough to fit in the pan LOL

boil the kettle and pour it over a section until its all done then re do it 2-3 times more that should do

It should be fine, especially if you coat it in sealant. Make sure it's properly dry inside first though, don't want it rotting from the inside. It may well float, depends on the density, but if it does you can screw it to some slate or similar.

doubt it you want boiling water

try the kettle method

or if you know someone with a wallpaper steamer take the head off wrap a towel around the hose and be careful then just give it a good blasting with the steam
