Ok as some of you know i've just been converted to keepong tropicals from coldwater .
my new tank is a juwel rio 180 ltr size is 101 x 41 x 50 cm

So i set the tank up saturday evening put the minnows in a bucket (2 buggers jumped out) with a lid on (after i found they'd jumped )

I knew i was going to get a juwel tank if i could get one for a good price so i purchased some of the blue filter sponges about 6 weeks ago and had them sat in my old tank for that time .
So i set up the new tank with the sponge thats been sat there and the new bits .
I also had a stingray 15 running in the other tank for 7 months so i moved that one intact over to the new one .
I transferred 60% of the gravel and 40ltrs of water from the old tank .
I filled it up put 2 heaters in and it was warmed up to 25degrees in 3 hours , so i put the 9 minnows in (they looked lost lmao)

Went to the fish shop yesterday and got 10 guppies and put them in the tank .
Got up this morning the minnows are laying eggs and the guppies are breeding already .
The tank has 13 apple snails in there aswell :) and they have started mating too .

Tested it this morning

Amonia 0
Nitrite 0
nitrate 15
ph 7.2

So do you think it will run ok have only ever done transfers up a small amount before never from a 60ltr to a 180 ltr and this is my first tropical tank i have only had cold water ones before so i know about cycling just wondering wether it will go into a mini cycle even though i transferred everything
not sure cos if the size and that

You did the right thing transfering the filters, as long as they didnt dry out you will have given your tank an instant cycle. Dont add too many new fish too quickly though, and keep monitering your readings for the next few weeks. Just to check, I hope you meant NitrAtes 15, NitrItes 0!

I didnt let the filters or the media dry out at all cos i know the bacteria wont survive else

i did get it muddled while typing and have changed it now thanks nitrates 15 , nitrites 0 , amonia 0

tested again right now and results are

Amonia 0
Nitrite 0
nitrate 20

Keep up with water changes and you will be fine. Nitrates are a little high for my liking, but the fish probably won't be harmed by them.

always are aound 15 -20 even in the old tank before we changed that had been running for a long time

sounds good, test your tap water, some people have nitrates from the tap of 40ppm in which case it's impossible to get them that low.

i seriously wouldn't worry though all the studies done on nitrate toxification in aquarium fish point towards the dangerous limit being somewhere around 400ppm (not a type-o, 400) or even higher for hardy fish.

20 is not going to do damage to the vast majority of fish.
