i just went to petco and there were 2 dudes that were looking at bettas and one was looking to buy one and the other customer was like just buy them there dieing anyways because they never get fed is that true that pet stores dont feed there bettas because ive seen the same fish a couple weeks in a row so they have to be feeding them. right?

i have seen the same fish in the same place and looks the same for a while and adopted a fish that the fish lady said that was there a long time and nobody would buy it so does that mean that they feed

I've actually seen that pet stores get a bulk load of fish and hope to sell them all before the next feeding is due..... yes! it happens, but let's hope it is far between......

yeah i hope so to i trust my petco and i dont think they would do that maybe underfeed them a little bit but i dont think they would not feed them at all

Never heard of it myself but then again its something that has never crossed my mind.

All I know is that I never see anybody feeding the betas at my LFS, but I'm not in there all day so I'm not sure if they do or not.

Why on earth would someone not feed the fish

Feeding takes me an hour every morning to do the main feed (doing a round of trop flakes, goldfish pellets, marine pellets, algae wafers, novo tabs, spirulina flakes, catfish pellets, pond sticks, bloodworm, artemia, krill/mysis, cichlid sticks, cockle, mussel, prawn and then live artemia naupilii for marines).

Then throughout day different fish get extra feeds, a second flake/pellet feed, catfish sinking food and some frozen foods.

Feeding is one of the most important things for happy healthy fish makes me sad to think people dont bother or dont feed much or variety. I even buy courgette or cucumber for plecs sometimes!

If the fish arent fed right they will be unhappy, lacking in colour, huddled, thin... whats the point? If you want to sell fish then you need them to look good, any retailer that cant work this out shouldnt have the job. Its not just cruel its just plain stupid and lacking in any kind of business sense.

well i know my LFS feed there fish, there always nice and fat when i go in, they get fed everyother day

Yeah but bettas are usually kept in little buckets of water. I never see people taking them off and dropping in food.

To be fair, feeding is usually done before customers are let in because customers are soooo annoying get in the way... ask questions... want to buy stuff... sheeeeeshhhh best do it before the hoards arrive!

The only feed worth doing whilst being plagued is Novotabs on the glass... kids LOVE watching a tank of 100+ danios going psycho over a novotab stuck to the glass and everyone love it when ALL the fish in nearly every tank are bundling onto a novotab LOL even if it is expensive, its worth for how awesome it looks!

lol I never thought of that. I guess if they do feed them they would do it before the customers come in.
