Is Fishkeeping Right

IMHO
the only unethical fish keeping is keeping fish that are
on the ICUN red list and are noted as being critically endangered.

I accept fishkeeping to be ethical. But if you dont really care for your fish and let them die...Then it becomes un-ethical...

Plus species have, and always will die off for various reasons. THAT is natural and THAT is nature. to try and stop that is UNETHICAL if anything. Animals that humans have been responsible for their demise we should protect...but ones that are dying off for toher reasons...should be left alone. Right now American forest are denser and richer than than were 50 years ago.
I totally agree about the whole protection of species thing, but the problem is that a lot of them are dying out because of us. There really aren't a whole lot of species that are on the endangered species list without us playing a part in putting them there, whether it be overhunting or habitat destruction.

BTW, species on the endangered species list are truly endangered if they are classified as such... there are actually specific guidelines for these things, and qualification is reevaluated at certain intervals:
Endangered Species Act Glossary

Just remember that to live life the way we want to...there have to be some sacrifices made. Everyone want to save the whales and be all animal and environment friendly...but no one wants to give up anything to do it.
Exactly.

Hi The-Wolf :)

I'm sure your heart's in the right place, but what about species that are newly discovered, such as is the case with corydoras in South America? I'm sure you are aware that new ones are still being found and identified.

Does that mean you find it acceptable to kill off a species if it's done fast enough that it doesn't survive the length of time it takes to go through the bureaucratic process involved in making it onto that list?

not at all inchworm. I can't wait untill the day I go to the far east and discover that all elusive danio lupus (wolf danio :p )

I didn't really think you meant to say that, The-Wolf, but some people might get that idea. ;)

While the endangered species designation is important to preserve some creatures, that we know to be in jeopardy, we can't forget that there are some that could slip through the cracks in the system and die off, all but unnoticed. :byebye:
