Hi, i'm new to the forum and to the hobby so need a bit of advice 
i'd always intended my 10 gallon/34 l tank to house a male betta splendens (i've had the tank for 2 yrs or so but for various reasons have only just got it properly set up). However, during this time i decided to find him some tank mates and now have 4 adfs (when i find them again) and 2 amano shrimp (would have been three, but one died sadly during transit). The thing is, i'm now not completely sure i want to get the betta, or at least i want to know my options (if there are any!)
The tank is as follows:
10 gallon/34 UK litre w/trickle filter
Heated to 26 degrees celcius
Lots of hiding places (including many which i didn't know about until my adfs managed to squeeze in them
)
Plants: anubias nana and several java ferns, soon to be more java ferns and a anubias bateri.
It's a tall tank (46cm high) as opposed to long.
Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, Nitrates 15-20 ppm. pH acidic, always has been and i'm not sure how to raise it or whether i should now that there's life in there.
i won't be adding anything for probably a month or so at the earliest but i'd like to know my options for stocking at this stage. Would any other bettas be ok (not splendens)? Any other ideas? Any idea is welcome - fish, amphibians, snails, crabs, other invertebrates, really anything goes...
