It seems that, through negotiation with my good lady, I will be having the 80 gallon (4" long and taller than it is deep) to play around with in a couple of weeks.
At the moment it houses my severums and uaru, which will move to the new 130 gallon.

So, anyway, my thoughts for the 80 are for some sort of wet pet.

I've already got sevs and uaru, so they're out. An oscar is probably pushing it a bit much to keep into adulthood in an 80. So what else should I consider ?

I like fish which are interactive and sometimes dig around. Our water pH is 8. Substrate will be a very, very fine gravel.

I'd thought of a GT or a flowerhorn. What else would you recommend and why ?

Beauty is fairly irrelevant to me. I'm looking for character and interesting, interactive behaviour.

Gulper catfish :D I want one as a wet pet one day. Or a jag :) cos they are awesome and if your from Yorkshire I can get you a beaut that needs a home asap :) This one digs all the time chases fingers and swims round your arm.

Texas!Herichthys carpintis I absolutely adore mine, they are so funny and cheeky, if I walk up and down in front of the tank they follow me, they will hand feed and beautiful too. you'll have to check on the tank size I only work in litres

Its a 300 litre. One of my LFS has a texas, about 5" I think. Hmmmmm.

Red devil. So many people say how much fun they are. They also change colors as they grow so it's fun to raise them.

I have to agree with Nelly, I am fishy sitting a birchir at the moment, only had him since saturday and I have fallen in love with him. Hand feeding already and just so sweet and funny. I think once all the baby sevs have grown up and left home their grow out tank may end up being a birchir tank

Birchir's are cool but IME they aren't as interactive as Oscars. Mine is only a baby though, so maybe time will tell, but hard pressed to beat Bor's displays and 'look at me' acts when I come up to the tank

Agree with Chilli~ birchirs arn't really interactive fish (and most not even active - I used to call my ornate's 'sleeping logs' - senegal's and delhezi are more active though).

I'm going to be bias here and say polleni (see my avatar), mine's interactive eg. he will square up to my hand if I put it by the side of the tank, be hand fed and will attack the water change tube. Plus polleni's aren't that common, look great and not that messy.

Gorgeous fish. I have never heard of them before.

For me, I think I've pretty much settled on getting a chocolate cichlid. It will be a lovely wet pet, and also potentially fit in with the occupants of my other tank, if need be.

How about a fire eel? Aren't they supposed to behave like puppy dogs?

And you should know where to find a nice one up Allington Lane ;)
