I have a spare 15 gallon at the moment, and I saw these fish for sale in my lfs and couldnt resist them. They were labelled as "striped goby" but, what actually are they? They are about 2 to 3 inches long, I saw them snacking on algae wafers. They have a single black stripe, and a black dot at the base of the caudal fin. They have a hite underside, and are gobies because on their underside, they have a suction fin to grip on the sides of the glass and rocks. They look a little like CAE's, but have much cuter faces, any ideas on what these guys are?

Many thanks in advance!

Oh and sorry for the terrible camera phone pics, I'll try and get better ones later!

:D Sure in hell arnt gobies, they look like algea eaters, but there are quite a few breeds of fish that look like em, its would definately help if we had clearer pictures, i have a book that has those kinds of fish in it, i could ID it positivly if there were clearer photos, a trend with those kind of fish thogh is that they are very agressive towards their own species, are your fish in the same tank together?

I can 99% guarantee they are gobies.

They're most definitely not Algae Eaters, or siamese flying foxes, or false flying foxes if that's what you're thinking of. None of those fish have suction fins beneath on their undersides.

These fish also aren't covered in the Baensch Aquarium atlases. Either volume 1,2 or 3.

I was about to get a decent photo, but my housemates digital camera isn't charged up :(

hi fella
just a quick question
do they have an adipose fin? (small fin between the dorsal and tail fin)?
is there any colouration on the fins?

EDIT
ok here is what I have found
it could be a Erimyzon succetta
or one of the catostomus species.

They're this style shape, with these fins. They are thinner than that fat goby though.

Sadly neither of the fish mentioned yet :(

Nmonks on here got it, it's a stiphodon goby species, from what I can tell stiphodon atropurpureus

Looks like I've got all females though, which is a bit of a disaster. Looks like I'm gonna be searching for males now...

They look great though eh? ;)
