So, I am a sucker for tiny fish. Today I saw a couple of tiny fish in a neon tetra tank with a few different types of gourami. They seemed super cute and looked like a bite sized snack for the gouramis in the tank so I asked the clerk what they were. There weren't any labels matching them (powder blue gourami, neon tetra, rabbit snail, kissing gourami, neon dwarf gourami). The store clerk didn't know what type of fish they were so he priced them at half the price of the cheapest fish in the tank (weird system but ok) so I got the little mystery dudes for $1.29 each.

Since the tank they were from had something like four different types of gourami maybe that's what they are? They have small polka dots on their fins, two small black lines along their bodies, a flatish head, flat mouth, and their top fins are pointed and angled backward. Behavior wise, they seem to come to the surface and grab air some times, they like bug bites flake food, and they're mostly hanging out in the floating plants at the top of my tank right now.

They're so small and hard to get a picture of...hopefully this is good enough. If not I guess I'll play the waiting game while they chill out in my nano fish tank with the emerald dwarf rasboras 😅

Yes, sparkling gourami remains small. But I get it why you think they could be fry because of their small size.
