I Messed Up .

I do pretty much do a min of 50% daily water change on a 280g and have yet to have any problems i don't think large water changes affect to much unless there is a big sway in ph which their shouldnt be unless you're tinkering with the water. With filter's it's always best to have two and clean one at a time, if you only have one you can still give it a really good clean just in tank water so you dont affect the bacteriea.

must take you ages!!!!but I imagine you get great growth!!

sorry to hear about the severum snowflake hope he recovers

Nah not at all, its a 24/7 water change system, i can speed it up so it flushes the water quicker but normally leave it running at a steady pace all day. HMA filters remove chlorine and metals from the water so no need to dechlorinate etc. Yeh fish growth is good, my marbled motoro ray shot up in size before selling it.

I do a 20% every 2 days and a 50% once a week and this is increased if I add fish or notice something is amis. I have several buckets ready with the new water then empty the tank via the aquastop valve into another bucket then tip in the clean water. I can do a 50% in about 10 mins.

I messed up I normally do one filter at a time but I cleaned out both filters. What I did was a total begginer move. I knew better but did it anyway not knowing how bad it really could be.

All is normal again all fish are 100% again. But the severum still is floating I dont know what to do for him.

I had to put the severum down today it was so sad. I really like that fish but he was suffering. I gave him time to recover and he just got worst and worst.

All other fish are doing great the tank is back to normal just with one less. :(. It's always a sad day when you lose a fish.

so sorry for your loss. :( .

Ah sorry to hear about your loss.

I do a 50% w/c every week, but honestly it doesn't hurt the fish if you go a bit over between changes. We have on the very rare occasion gone two weeks between changes and the fish have been absolutely fine. Tank was a bit grubby though

When we clean the filters we only do one at a time, and we do it the same time as a w/c sometimes. If replacing sponges we only do one at a time, but rarely need to replace the sponges anyway.

We moved house recently, so cleaned the filter the week beforehand in preparation. On the day of the move they got a 100% w/c. All fish are absolutely fine and happy a week on, in fact one of the Geos in particular has come out with even more stunning colours, and I didn't think that was possible.

TBH it is all about not upsetting the balance. You could easily do a 100% w/c every day if the filter media is kept mature and not exposed to chlorine/chlorimine. I think the main part in Snowflake's mistake was the changing of the sponges as well as rigorous cleaning of the filter, that combined caused the casualty, not the large water change on its own.
