I agree with you James, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but as this is the internet and as such we cannot express our emotions as we would face to face, i.e. through tone of voice, facial expressions and body language, I think more of an effort should be made in order to convey what you mean in a non offensive manner. Unfortunately it's way too easy to miss understand what someone has written which leads to these kind of topics :(

Well obviously not, because we are behind keyboards. We can express our opinions maybe not so much our emotions. Different things

I presume you were talking to Salty when you said 'convey what you mean in a non offensive manner'?

I really for the life of me can't find any way in which 'Grow a pair' could be used nicely... 'Grow a pair... of vegetables' possibly, but I doubt that would be sprung up on this forum. :good:

James.

I do not beleive that you have to be vegiatarian to cry over something, I mean come on... Salty, are you saying that buy being a vegitarian, you cry at the death of anything? Because that's really stupid. Raptorrex, if course this is flaming. Someone just said that crying over the death of a fish, is stupid and pointless (It's just a fish, Vegavic!).
Just my opinion, but I think some people nee to understand that a fish isn't just a pretty ornament.

I say we use this as an oppurtunity and let Ianho close his first thread so he feels like a proper mod :shifty:

James.

or, conversely, we could let the thread live its normal life. providing nobody is being abusive. why should people not make their view known on the subject, and its offshoot?

you see, I've found the thread interesting (still do). i hadn't realised how "thin skinned"( I'm not suggesting this is in any way wrong, just a change) forum members had become. this, i will have to take into account when i post.

however i do take exception to the suggestion that i "nee to understand that a fish isn't just a pretty ornament." how dare you suggest, because i don't get tearful if i have to euthanas a fish,(nor, truly, understand those who do) that i somehow do not value the lives of my fish. as ill thought out, and objectionable a comment, as has appeared in this thread. yet you preach against it to others!

and there's the rub! what one person likes, another abhors. because of this, not only do you have to watch what you say. but, perhaps just as importantly, watch how you react.

now i have no wish to "flame" :S zophie. i use your quote as an illustration. (and i maintain its validity). you see your post doesn't upset me at all. how could it? its pixels on a screen. put there by somebody you will ever meet. therefore they can have no effect on me, at all!

I just meant that more of an effort to be polite would nice :3 (I have trouble wording things how I mean it sometimes). And no, it wasn't aimed at Salty. It was just a general comment about people talking to others online, because as I said, it's sometimes difficult to read peoples comments as they mean them.

It's why I put so many smilies in my topics as I'm always trying to convey what I'm trying to say to people in the right manner- I hate offending people, and yes, I know I'll never meet most people online, but it still bothers me to think that I may have upset someone. Just the way I am

Anyway...off topic D:

I think a someone needs to close this topic right now, too many people our getting hurt over it :(

P.S. Oh, and raptorex, I'm sorry at what I said, but you did suceed in hurting me.

Hmmm what a read...

Firstly i think vic done a very good & noble thing putting the fish to sleep and ending his suffering,so i congratulate you on that :good:

I think salty comments came across has...get on with it...fish are basically ten a penny and not worth a tear type attitude...which at the time was probably not the best comment to make.

Each to their own, peeps will have their say and we must take the good with the bad i'm afraid and try to take it with a pinch of salt when we don't like the reply.

Yes I have cried over loss of a fish ( and yes i am female ;) ),and i would have done exactly the same has vic if i seen a suffering fish :-(

I would honestly like this to be closed now.
I think this topic has run it's natural course, we bickered and now we've come to the understanding that if people are more considerate about how they phrase things, we can avoid topics about how we should phrase things more considerately in the first place.

I shall not be posting anymore in this topic, again thank you everyone for your kind words, but it seems counter-productive now to continue.

VaegaVic,

u done a great job.. the fish will thank you..

but u dont need to share it..

ps.. they charge you for that gold fish? :grr:

I have euthanised loads of fish because of bad spearfishing in the areas I have worked, the insides are literally ripped out of wrasse and other less desirable species as people shoot spears at the large barracuda and tuna or other desirable species. As a result I get my dive knife out and slice its spine and if possible its head to ensure its death as opposed to twitching on the sea floor.

wow..... do you ever have to an euthanised whale or basking shark or somthing?

Wow step away for a couple of days and this just keeps growing, didn't expect that. I have read through the comments and will answer a few.

Vegavic - I am sorry if I offended you but I don't see how this fish could have such an affect on a person, in my mind it hasn't had the opportunity to show you its character traits and querks to make someone fall in love with it. Obviously we differ in our views as you clearly see that the fish had history with you.

Athena - Man or woman doesn't matter to me, crying over a fish that I believe to have no personal attachment to you is strange, (no offence meant its just different to my views) as again there is no love like you may have with a pet you have had for longer. Being sad over it yes I can understand, but being reduced to tears is a different level of bereavement.

Twinklecaz - I know the difference between the 2 as I use to be vege, then for a short while a vegan but now I am back to omnivore. I realised it is the course of nature for one animal to dominate another and I will eat any food there is available to me, for me the hype around veganism is just that hype.

Zophie - I don't believe raptorex intended to hurt you as I believe we both share a common trait of not minding what the pixels show as they are just that. If you were to be face to face with me and say something malicious then yes I would take offence, I am never likely to meet any of you guys although I have met a few of the old timers in the past. This is a recreational site and as such your words affect my decisions in my hobbies but unlikely to truly impact me.

In business I get emails from suppliers which use the term em before my name which in Vietnamese is a sign of younger brother or lesser one. Whilst this is acceptable for suppliers I have met in person, as I am 20 and so 10+ years younger then what they expect of someone in management. For a supplier that has never seen me and gives me that form of passive disrespect I get annoyed at it. I offer them respect by calling them anh which means older brother or chu which is young uncle and expect the same back until they meet me. In the world of business I take a different view to what your choice of language is.

Vin Swords - It would take one hell of a spear gun to do enough damage to one of those sharks to need to be euthanised
