So I had posted I was considering getting a electric blue Jake. I went to the store the 2 were still there So i bought one he is almost 2". I saw 2 tiny ich spots I'm treating him so there should be no problem. He seems really happy and healthy I'm growing him out for a month or 2. then I will deside on witch acara I keep.

Here is my little boy I am pretty sure it's a boy not 100% since he is still small.

stunning fish i have one that is about 4" the colours are stunning as they grow they are slow growers as well i was worried about buying one after all th erumours of how sensitive they are but that is all rubbish if your tank is healthy then they will be fine ..mine is in my community and is soo peacful its crazy

I never had seen one in a pet-store before till now. I was picking up some stuff and had to look at the fish. My LSF will get some crazy random fish in, it is always worth a look. Their they were at first glance I thought what is that. Then I saw EBJD I thought no way, and only $20. I had seen them range from $25-70 online. So I went home with out one. Did some research thought about it for a few days. Then I went back sure enough they were still their So I had to have one. I always wanted a JD but knew they could be pretty aggressive and get big. So I got my blue Acaras. But then I found the EBJD and they are said to be smaller and much less aggressive then the normal ones. I wanted one but was not going to pay the high price+ shipping. I got lucky.

This fish seems really happy and healthy. I'm sure there are some EBJD that are weak due to poor breeding or something but not all are weak fish. I have only had this guy for a day. I can tell he will become my pride and joy of the tank. He might even be my ticket to another larger tank. We will see. I'm kind of glad to hear they are slow growers. We are looking for a house and once we move I can get a 100+ Gal tank. till then he will have to be happy with a 55 gal.

it is a male.
they are only £3 at my lfs, at about 2", but i suppose the price varies in different places!
very nice looking fish!
was they both males in the store or male and female? id of been tempted to get both if they was male and female if you pay that money for them there!

Its not rubbish, I kept mine in pristine conditions and they still develped eye problems.

Nice fish though it doesnt seem like a full blue jack (which is probably a good thing)and also a little young to sex.

Yeah no way would you find an Electric blue for 3 pounds = $4 US dollars. it must have been a regular JD.

Not a full EBJD I disagree? The EBJD is a recessive gene. Not all JD carry it. Just like some people have bight blue eyes and others have a darder blue those people are still blue eyed people but different shapes. Same with blonds some are really light others darker all are blonds but different shades. I have seen some photos of these fish that are a lighter color then mine with more all over blue with less black.

Here is what I think my fish will grow up too look like.

Then you have ones that look like this. Almost solid blue.

I bought 3 female JD's and they cost me £2.95 each.

I bought my male Electric Blue JD a little over a year ago and he cost me £25

Depends on what strain of JD you want to buy :p

Stunning fish. My male is a little over 4" now. He's stunning, although he tries to nip the underside of m boesemani rainbows at night ha!

haha great find, i hear lots of mixed storys about these guys,,, good luck with it...
did you sort filter out in the end?

Thanks I'm really excited about this new fish.

The stupid filter. Funny you asked that's on my list of things to do today once my baby is asleep. I'm going to give it another try. So no it is not working yet I gave up on it for a little while. It was driving me mad. I am letting it all dry out and I will start it up bone dry as if it was new and we will see how that goes. I will try all the little trick people told me to try.

Thanks

I can only go on my own experience but here are mine when small and how they grew, their colours changed significantly. I still think yours has a some regualr dempsey in it but thats not to say its not got the potential to be a beautiful fish and I would think hardier than the really sky blue ones.
