My L137 is coming from Wildwoods today. Due to arrive before 12:30.

Been very hard finding one of these due to the export ban. I just hope it is a proper L137. Certainly sounded it from what they said on the phone.

I am off work today, but been up for the last hour in case the courier came early. Now sitting downstairs on the laptop so as not to miss the front door!

There is a big list of L-Numbers which the authorities in South America (Brazil mainly I think) have banned from export due to over catching in a bid to try and restore stocks.

They aren't banned here or banned from sale etc, just banned from being exported. However, some of the exporters often send them under different names and hope they dont get checked by customs before they are released.

Thats why I am really hoping it is a true L137, as these ones were ordered in to the sop as something different and I have just "got lucky" with finding one. They are confident the ID is correct, so I hope so too. There are quite a few variants too. Fingers crossed. Will get some piccies when he/she arrives.

how exciting, i would love to get a plec.... im just worried about getting the wrong advice and end up with one thats way to big for my 180 litre tank.

I want to get a second tank for plecs. There are so many I would like, but really limited with what I can have because of having a mbuna tank, due to water parameters and in case of attack.

I would love a 10ft tank where I could keep laods of fancy plecs and some community fish. Just dont have the space in the house. Still, its an aspiration for the future.

Get a BN plec, they only grow 6 - 8 inches and you van find them as albinos too.

i have L137 on my wholesale list so they are coming into the country, i am right in thinking the true L137 is the 'blue eyed red finned' pleco? the one listed as L137 on planet catfish?
out of interest what sort of size is the one your getting and what sort of price was it?
they are on my singapore list, but not my germany list, i am due to receive a new peru and colombia list in the next 4 weeks so will be interesting to see which plecs are on them!
get a pic put up when it arrives!!

Yes Dave its the Blue eyed red fin, although the guy I spoke to said the blue eyes were not apparent, but the red fins were, which is why I have a niggling doubt in my mind about it being a genuine 137, coupled with the fact it came in under a different name, but they did identify it as the 137 from planet catfish so I am really hoping it is.

Its about 8cm and it was £34.95 plus shipping. I think it was a little on the expensive side, was expecting about £25 but it came via a wholesaler into Wildwoods, which I think has added to the cost.

Anyway.... it has just arrived! Off to go get it aclimatised

thats not too bad, the blue eyes aren't particularly apparent on any of them, i wouldn't actually call them blue from any pictures i've seen of them, maybe they get more blue as they mature? not sure, they work out at around £40 at 4" on my list, thats from singapore, i'd probably say they will be cheaper on one of the south american lists i get, will have to have a look when they come through!

i get the lists sent via email from the wholesalers, i have to buy in quantities though, for example if i wanted them L137 i'd have to order at least 4.
also if i ordered just the plecs, which is 4 per box then all the shipping fee's and vat etc will be on them so would work out more, as opposed to getting a mixed box, to be honest the singapore one isn't the best, but the german one has less plecs, but is cheaper, both fish price's and shipping costs so can get some better deals.

Sounds like my £34.95 wasn't too bad then. There was one on aquarist classifieds from a private seller for £20 8" long, but was a bit big for me. Looked like a nice one. Was also too far away from me to collect really.

He/She is just getting warmed up before I transfer out into a bucket to start mixing the water.

presumably if it was 8" then they must of had it a while so may have bought it when they was cheaper, i.e. a couple of years ago before the ban they would have been cheap. plus people sell privately cheaper than a shop would, i would have to wait to see the other lists to work out what would be a reasonable price but i wouldn't say you payed too much, a good price for a nice fish i say.
you don't fancy any nice Uaru fernandezyepezi do you? they are the rare expensive ones! they work out around £50 each but i'd have to order at least 5 and only want 1 pair!

Would love some, alas not suited to my tank and I only have the one. They would go well in a pleco tank though. Stop putting more ideas in my head. lol

haha i go down the list at night and write things down and go yes i'll have them, and them, and them, oh and i'll get 20 of them, then sit back and think where the heck am i going to put them! which is why im getting the 6 tanks installed under the stairs, well there will be 12 separate tanks all together as half of them will be split, then i really will be able to go down the list and get loads of fish! the idea is i can buy fish cheaper in numbers and buy big fish as juveniles and grow them on, will be good!
