How To Know How Much Sand To Use?

I know this is a stupid question, but how would I calculate how much sand I have to buy/use for my aquarium?

Its usually 1 pound of sand per gallon of water but it's better to over do it a bit. for my 20g I put 25 lbs.

Really depends on the look your going for, i used like.. 16 - 17 lbs in my 10 gallon, but you could use more or less depending on if your making a wavy bottom, or slopes and dips. we cant tell you how much to put in or take out its all preference. if you want to have 6 inches of sand showing on the front of your glass that's your call mate. good luck with however you choose to sculpt it.

I just chucked in a full bag, enough to cover about 3" i think. I wanted to cover that part of the tank anyway with black tape so i dont miss anything anyway.

Alright thanks. I think a 40lb bag will cover 29 gallons
