How To Divide A Large Tank

Ok, I know its easy to divide a small tank, Ive done it for bettas, but how or what to use to divide a 5ft x 2 ft tank?

Temporary solution needed, I cant find anywhere that sells large enough plastic canvas to divide the tank, what else can be used? Not glass as I dont want it to be permanent. Anyone done this or have an idea of what to use please?

B&Q sell perspex in larg enough sheets i think the smallest they do is 4ft x 2ft

As mixmaster jay said, cut a piece or perspex to the size you need. If it's for medium sized to larger fish (ie. betta size and up) and if you're feeling handy, then you can use the smallest drill bit in the box to drill lots of little holes for the water to circulate. If not, you would probably need to filter each section separately. Use the grippy things from the plastic canvas that you can buy to stop it from sliding or a suppose you could use aquarium silicone to stick a piece of rubber or a door seal or something down the side to stop it from moving.

It might be a good idea to post in the DIY section as they will know a lot better than I do about that kind of thing

Thanks, will get to B&Q, see what they have.

Cant silicone as the tank is full of water and fish. Tank is filtered both sides, so thats not a problem, fish are large, so stopping it from moving may be a problem.

You could maybe put a thick blob of aquarium silicone down the edges of the perspex before you put it in the tank. Then leave it to dry so you wuld end up with rubbery edges at both ends of your perspex which could stop it moving.

Don't know if that would work or even makes sense but hey

you can actually buy aquarium silicone that you can use when the tank is full of water and stocked with fiah but its quite expensive around £20 for 330ml (which is the big size) and that works a treat but only aquatic shops sell it. where you from ? i know of two shops in derbyshire that sell it £19:99 at cml and £18:99 at mastin moore both in chesterfield

Hmmm something rubbery down either side of the perspex to wedge it down might work.

Or just accept I might lose this set of fry, unless the parents are ultra protective

you cuold try wedging it with offcuts of perspex down th back of it so its not as visible. south staffs thats about 50 miles ish away from here its a bit far to come for some silicone really lol
