Best 40l tank

I'm returning to the hobby after moving house and selling my large tank. The only space I have available for a new tank is 45x38cm .
I've seen a lot of good reviews on the fluval flex 2.0 but it seems very small at 35 x 35 cm (34l)
The biggest tank I can currently find is the super fish start 50 at L44, W27, H37 (40l) ..does anyone use this? I like the look of the taller tank.
I'm going to Maidenhead aquatics today to chat to them, but wonder if anyone can suggest alternatives .

If you are with Amazon UK there is a really good tank team called Diversa. They do them both with and without lids, dependent on what you are looking for. Different sizes to choose from if you look across towards the right of the page of any tank or full aquarium they advertise. They use good glass and have not seen any bad reviews about their work. They do not however do custom tanks, as I have already asked that question. What size 'hole' have you got to work with? Also consider the height the tank will be at once the water etc. is in. Will you be able to reach the bottom to deal with plants, cleaning etd.

Also, you may wish to consider your options for getting a tank that has filters, heaters and other things that you can get separetely, that you may wish to better fit the aquarium around what sort of fish you want to keep. Do you want to have a lid on, or use the tops to display plants with their roots using the water to help offset some of the matter in the water that will aid with keeping the aquarium clearer of some of the nasties, making it easier to clean etc.

There is a lot of choice out there nowadays, and a lot of different was to put a tank together, dependant on what eventual look you may prefer.

I suggest you may wish to look back through some threads and maybe the 'tank of the month' competitions for ideas on how people have set up their systems etc. if you have not already done so.

Good luck with whatever you decide, and this forum is great to ask questions on. All have different ways of doing things and different thoughts they may choose to put forward for consideration.

We had this and a little Betta fish got into the filter and damaged its spine, it then died. Loads of reviews going back years highlight this design fault.

Have a look at the Fluval Flex 57L. It may be a couple of cm too wide, but I reckon a plywood/mdf base with a self-levelling mat would suffice. Well, that's if you have a few cm of room to spare . The one good thing about the flex is you will only have to buy the heater (if tropical), ornaments, and substrate separately rather than buying everything individually.

Thank you, lots to consider. I've been to Maidenhead aquatics today...very helpful to see the tanks set up & knowledgeable staff so took plenty of photos. Now need to see if I can stretch to a slightly larger tank by adapting the cupboard..

I looked at that tank today.....my favourite so far
I'm working on the old man ...see if we can squeeze an extra 2cm width on top of the cupboard & if it'll bear the weight.
The start 60 Qube 54l is very similar.

I've always been told that a full tank should be supported on all 4 corners with no overhang. If you can achieve that with some form of wooden board topper on the cupboard (pending whether the weight can be supported) and a mat for the tank to sit on, I reckon it should be A-OK
