How Has My Amano Shrimp Made It

hi there i got 5 amano shrimp about 2 month ago and 1 was really really small so i put them in and every day i counted 4 shrimp for about 2 weeks. I assumed the little 1 would be a goner but i carn't beleive my eyes but i've jus found him in my filter i put him back in tank and looks like hes gone to hide again, hes defo abit bigger than he was, ha still carn't beleive he aint been eaten, happys days

well its not been in there long its been hiding about the tank but when i do WC sometimes the shrimp get into the filter but its easy to get them out so its all good

yea spose, my shrimp have yet to get stuck in the filter, i think... although i havent seen one of them in a while

haha i love them though the way they swim about makes me chuckle

Back in the day when I kept that sort of tank my wife called out that there was a large earwig thing in the bathroom. When I checked it out it turned out to be one of my adult Amano's covered in carpet fluff! It appeared to be alive so I stuck it back in the tank.

It survived no problem but it's crazy as the tank was some 18 feet from where the shrimp was found. Even crazier it was the morning of the previous day that I had the lid off during a water change.....

Las time I cleaned my filter in my 120l I found about 6 cherry shrimp in there. They must have been sucked in whilst young and grown on in the filter. They had been in there for at least 3 months as it was a new filter and that was it's first clean. There is plenty for shrimp to eat in a filter, particularly externals. Shrimp feed on tiny particulate matter and what's your filter for (apart from harbouring nitrifying bacteria)? Filtering out particles! The perfect place for shrimp to live except it's a bit dark!
