After losing one pleco, I am determined to not lose another. While awaiting the conditioning of the bogwood I want to supplement it's diet with some cucumber. I just can't figure out how to weight it down without using metal. I'm sure that there's a simple answer somewhere!

when you buy plants from the lfs, they come wrapped with a little bit of metal around the bottom, use that, i do :)

Some people including myself just stick a normal eating fork in the cucumber but Ive seen this on Ebay:

if you dont want metal, here's an idea. in theory it should work, but ive never tried myself..i use a fork.
get a small rock. superglue several short lengths of toothpick to it(round ones would be stronger than the flat type). make sure the pointy bits that stick up off the rock are not long enough to penetrate the thickness of cucumber you'd be slicing (so they dont scratch themselves up).. stab or push the cucumber slice onto the toothpikcs...it should work, right? and dont worry at all about using superglue. 100% aquarium safe :)
cheers

Cool - teaspoon works nice and looks nice as it's right shiny (just don't tell the Mrs - she hasn't spotted it yet) plant weights work nice and are quite subtle. Now to remember to take the cucumber out before it clags everything up!

Still don't think that screwcumber is an apprpriate word...

Hi there i just boil my cucumber for approx 5 mins then let it cool , and youll be amazed it just sinks to bottom and stays there for the fish to enjoy

I just put it under a stone, then they eat from there.

I bought a screwcumber after reading this post ... £3 well spent for the packaging name alone! HAHA

Works a treat :)
