Just wondering how people go about filling up their tanks. The tank i have at the moment is in the kitchen so its not too bad if i get water everywhere. But as im getting a juwel 800 it is having to go in my bedroom, and i could really do without water going on the carpet, do people use some sort of pump?
Thanks

Water change, I use hoses in and hoses out, but topping up, a bucket dear Liza, a bucket!

oh hoses sounds good, and i do use a bucket its just i wondered how you get it from the bucket to the tank? same way as when glavel cleaning?

Water change i just syphon out and pump back in. Use the pump for the skimmer, pump the water back in and then re-attach.

For just topping up RO water, bucket mate just a bucket.

I am very simple with my setup, when using the gravel cleaner, I make sure my bucket is below the tank, now to put water into the tank, I take the gravel cleaner attachment off, stack some boxes, and make sure the water is above my tank, and i let it drain in through the pipe into the tank :D

now that is much easier for me i already have that stuff :D

to the OP:

There's a closet near our tank. In there I keep an old beach towel that I always spread out around the front/sides of the tank when I work. I also keep a couple of smaller towels and a roll of paper towels there. I use hoses for everything so its only a matter of wiping off the hoses while they are above the tank with one of the smaller towels. The python-type hoses are an amazing change from using buckets. I do make use of the bathroom tub as the place where the wet ends of the long hose can go prior to it being emptied and the outside of it dried as it is coiled for storage under the sink.

ps. Ludwig, my marriage is opposite, lol, tank breaks and starts dumping 28 gallons, she could care less.. its me who freaks out!

i syphon into a bucket use a gravel cleaner, then to refill i have a bucket high up in a cupboard, which i fill with a hose and at the same time i syphon from the bucket into the tank.
i fill the bucket with prime to condition water as it goes in the tank.
been think about plumbing a water tank up there, with a ball valve and a hose connector.

I use a similar method to many I see here. I remove the light strip from the tank and lay a board across the top frame of the tank. All I need do then is set the bucket on the board and siphon right into the tank. By using a good sized bucket, I only need to start the siphon once or twice to fill after a water change.
