Household Items

I use an old credit card to clean the inside glass

And my next project is for me fry....an ice cream container with side and bottom panels cut out, with flyscreen over the panels attached with silicon, in the tank with styrofoam to help it float, with an airstone for extra surface agitation....FOR MY FRY :D

I have filters made out of five gallon buckets with lids ran by pool pumps. They're stuffed with quilt batting. On smaller tanks I use under sink canisters ran by small fountain pumps. My pond filter used to be a ballast tank and the pond itself is an old jaccuzi. I recycle a lot. Store bought filters are pricey.

Milk pitcher. I use it for lots of stuff.
I wrote "for fish pee" on it so my housemates don't use it for milk.

I think toothbrushes and tights have to be the favorites.

Margarien tubs make good caves, cut the entrance and burie them.

I,ve used washing up sponges in filter medium, in box and small filters without a prob.

I've used most of the above but one thing I can't belive no one has mentioned!! Flower pots!!!!!!!!!! Very useful for caves and deco and for some imaginative planting!

we used some tubing from our hamster spaceship cage you could add bits to make longer tunnels and curves the fish enjoyed it swimming through one half of the tubing was see through so we could watch them.

we used old tubing from our hamster spaceship cage (habitrail), it was great you could change the set up of tubing every other day, the top half of the tubing was see through so we could watch them swim in and out, the fish semed to love it.

I've used those plastic coated paperclips to spear a chunk of cucumber, then wrap the wire around a rock to weigh down the cucumber. The plastic coating prevents rust issues so if I don't get it out of the tank right away, no worries.

Not the most inventive but I use those fat pipe cleaners they make for craft-
use to clean the nooks and cranies and pipes of my Aquaclear filters. Great for the gunk that builds up in the bend.

I've also taken all those corny shot glasses friends gave me back in the college days (that I never used), used left over aquarium sealant and attached tank gravel to them, to use as caves.

And of course, where would I be without my beloved turkey baster. Great for cleaning small tanks, but also useful for feeding frozen foods. I also use a small syringe for feeding portions of frozen foods.

Those days-of-the-week pill containers are great for using when you're going out of town and have someone taking care of your fish. Can portion out the foods and what to feed to what days easily that way. I have one for each of my larger tanks.

I've never tried it personally, but I know some folks use old nylons/pantyhose not only as filter intake covers (to save your fry), but also as nets (using an old coat hanger to make a little net frame). Gives them a finer mesh than many store-bought fish nets.

Plastic chopstick - very handy for shoving plants back in, planting fertiliser tabs, stirring sand, turning over snails that are stuck on their backs......poking fish to see if they're dead  :p :D

Also use a fish slice for raking the gravel.

Ice cream tub I use to collect water siphoned out of the aquarium and salad thongs to remove any uneaten food or dead :( fish

A turkey baster is the most essential item I own. I use them for feeding bloodworms to the plecs, and for sucking out poo from betta tanks, collecting bbs etc. I have a few in each room

I use cups as little houses for my bettas
Cups and houses shouldn't even be in the same sentence together! Unless,of course, it was...
I took my betta from this cup and moved him to a real house.
