I don't know whether it is suitable in terms if toxins, but it is very sharp and I certainly wouldn't if you're planning to have catfish or other bottom dwellers. TBH I wouldn't try it.
 
Thanks for the advice , just trying to keep some costs down if I can , still pondering playsand but cant make my mind up ......
 
Tesco value low dust cat litter is the way to go then. Very cheap.
 
I used Argos play sand in all my tanks.

£2.99 for 15kg,rinse it thoroughly,usually rinse it 3-4 times

I'm using swimming pool filter sand and it's around £10 for 25kg and doesn't compact like playsand does :good:
 
went for playsand in the end , 25kg for £5 from B&Q , didnt take too much rinsing ....
