Hmm...any ideas from you experts?

How did the gouramies die? Blue gouramies are the hardiest but males will fight - often to the death...

I'd suggest moonlights as they are the largest of the more common 'small' types if you want gouramies. Under good lighting they show a purple tinge and their bright orange or yellow ventrals contrast attractively. Plus they have super-small, extra-shiny scales ;)

siverdollar why not get another strain of rainbow fish they are fantastic fish and have such diverse colours avalible to the fish keeper. EG Boeseman's or a couple of threadfins whould fill your tank that bit more. Also my freind keeps very large silverdollars in his 88g tank the plant he's able to grow without being shredded is a cool collection of onions. good luck with your choice of set up. ;)

Hi Dudes, :D

I would of suspected the shark to possibly be the cause of death for the gourami and the swordtails. They can be real pains the RT sharks. I suppose the swords were red ones to add to their fate. :-( :D
Blue gouramis can usually hold their own but against the shark, well my money would be on the shark. I have also seen a large chinese algae eaters help in the death of a blue and a gold gourami. This used to eat the mucus off the fish and then damage the fishes side. Infection and then death. I suspect the shark to have chased the blue around alot and possibly inflict some damage leading to its demise and eventual death. :-(
I think the rainbows would be a safer bet. I think melanotaenia species would be the best as they are the larger ones. Threadfins (Iriatherina Werneri) and Pseuddomugil species would be a non starter as they are too small.

I recently parted company with both of my sharks at a fish auction. These 2 fish were fantastic show fish that had won quite a few prizes over the last two years. The trouble was their agression. I had to have them in individual tanks with no other fish present. This ment that i had 2 75cmx30cmx37cm tanks taken up by two fish. This was no good as tank space is vital to my fish breeding projects. Although disapointed with selling them I did have a smile with the amount of money they fetched. Everyone seemed to want them! :D

i had the blue gouramis before the shark, so it wasnt the shark for the gouramis. they shark was definitely part of the problem at least though with the swortails, and yes, they were red....one swordtail actually got stuck in a rock fixture, the other got killed, and one died a mystery death...

anyways, yeah ill research those rainbows, although im not sure about the boesmani rainbows, just because of the cost issue.....im 15 and definitely not rich :D

thanks for your input though guys, and keep those ideas coming, you have given me so many great ideas so far! thanks :D
