hi all completely new here (but have been lurking for some time  ) finally decided to sign up. Im still fairly new to the hobby so thought id add some pics of my tank and see if anyone could offer me some improvement advice :fun: Also I've got a few questions.
1. My guppy is heavily pregnant I think she is "boxed" but couldnt get a decent picture to show you however she has been like this for about a week now is there anything I can do to make it easier for her to give birth?
2. Any idea what my pleco is I got him from pets at home and was worried about size he was just labelled as pleco? I did ask if he was a common and they told me no he would stay smallish but sales man wasnt sure what he is.
heres my pics:

apologies about photo quality my camera isnt the best.

It's a nice looking tank! From what I can see of your guppy, it doesn't look like she's quite ready yet, but I could be deceived by the photos. When mine deliver, they look literally like a square box from the side, and nearly perfectly round from the front, and like they're about to explode. You might have a bit of a wait yet.

Welcome!

Your tank looks very nice :good:
You can just leave the guppy be. She will be more stressed if you separate her in a breeding net or tank. (unless you want all the babies to survive), your call. Can't help you on the Pleco as I've never had one.

Welcome to the forum and the hobby:)

Thank you all! B-) Im thinking of leaving the guppy where she is I would like to keep the babies as this would be my first time but i'd rather not stress her so ill leave her where she is. Any chance any of them will survive?

Do you have plants in your tank? The more the better for the fry to hide. I'll bet you'll have lots of babies to watch! What I usually do is leave the mother where she is, feed her when she starts dropping fry (so nobody eats them) and then scoop them out into their own tank until they're at least old enough to sex. At that point they go back in with males or females (I have a tank with each).

Good luck!

Edit: I just looked at your photos again and see you do have plants. You could add a floating plant and be just fine IMO.

The pleco is difficult to ID from the photo, could you get another? I hope it is *NOT* a common because common plecos grow between 12" and 24", depending on species, and need a much larger tank than you have.

The palm-type thing with the light green edges on the leaves (right group of plants, centre front) is not aquatic, take it out, pot it and put it on your windowsill ;)

Oh no way :-( I love this plant are you sure? I dont just want to take it out if its ok I baught it from MA about 3 weeks age and they had loads for sale im going to be upset if it isnt aquatic i honestly really like it. Ive been researching the plec and think its a gibbiceps could this be true? sorry picture quality is awful my camera is only a 10mp

I think it is a Dracaena species. If you love it so much, pot it and enjoy it for years to come.. or leave it in the tank and watch it rot slowly.

your tank looks great! the pics are fine! the megapixel on the camera doesnt really matter when it comes to shots like these! just get the little pleco in better focus and someone could probably help u more! also if youre really trying to ID him, get some better shots and post in the catfish section, probably more experts will see your post in there!

:hi:

oh, and that plant is definitely not aquatic, as I fell into the same trap from the pet store and learned the hard way!

went back to lfs today and told them about the plant they disagreed but I googled and you are all definitely right so its coming out  Also noticed a really small baby fish today im guessing its probably a guppy but the one I thought was boxed still looks the same so not quite sure where its come from. Oh and was wondering why my sailfin molly is constantly hasseling the platys does any one know? :look:

What's your livebearer stocklist? Male and female numbers separately, please. Livebearers will often harass females of a different species and mollies are known to be quite aggressive sometimes.

Hi I have guppy's: 4 female 2 males, 1 male sailfin molly, 5 female platys

That explains it, he's male, they're female. If you want him to not harass them quite as much, keep 2-4+ female mollies per male.
